About the Role:

We are currently seeking a Product Strategy Manager for the global drilling segment. This role serves as the single point of accountability for defining and executing Caterpillar’s Drilling segment strategy, owning long‑term product direction, investment prioritization, and portfolio strategy across a global footprint.

As the Drilling Product Strategy Manager, you will lead front‑end strategy for current and future products and services, working directly with customers, regional teams, and cross‑functional partners to identify market opportunities, develop business cases, and guide R&D investments that drive profitable growth and long‑term market leadership.

  • This position is located in Houston, Texas, Northern Ireland, or Dubai
  • Relocation is available for this position
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
  • This position requires 5 days onsite

What You Will Do:

  • Provide segment strategy leadership for all products sold worldwide in the Land and Offshore Drilling Industries. This will include identifying areas for growth within the industry, evaluation of new technologies, long-term forecasting, business case development, and strategy implementation to support new business development for the Drilling Industry.
  • Own global segment strategy through direct engagement with regional teams and dealers to address customer needs, regulatory requirements, and competitive dynamics.
  • Build relationships with key customer stakeholders to align Caterpillar’s product strategy with the thought and technology leaders in the industry.
  • Travel regularly to gather information about customer needs, market dynamics, the competitive landscape and Caterpillar’s position in the industry.
  • Synthesize market research and customer needs to cast the vision of where the industry will be headed in the short, medium, and long term.
  • Develop multi-generation product plans for the key products in the Drilling industry with an intense focus on customer acceptance, Caterpillar profitability, and market leadership.
  • Influence and align cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Marketing, Services, Supply Chain, Finance, and Regions) to execute segment strategy without direct authority.
  • Develop and refine product requirements, and the necessary business cases to launch and support New Product Introduction (NPI) programs within Caterpillar.
  • Prioritize R&D investments across the Drilling portfolio to maximize long term value creation, IRR and strategic alignment

  • Strong understanding of land and offshore drilling applications, equipment, and operating environments (e.g., natural gas and diesel engines, gensets, or adjacent technologies).
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • An entrepreneurial product manager mindset focused on solving customer problems while driving profitable growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize a wide range of market data into a clear and compelling product strategy
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, balancing competing priorities, and making decisions with imperfect information.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Value Selling: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs.

 

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
