Purpose of Role:

Reporting directly to the Drill and Blast Superintendent, the Drill and Blast Supervisor provides coordination and direct supervision of field activities. This role is responsible for ensuring that all drilling, loading, and blasting activities are performed safely, to technical design, and in compliance with regulatory standards to meet the production needs of the Mine Operations department.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Direct Supervision: Provide site wide coordination for the drilling program and supervision of drillers and blast crews to ensure project efficiency and pattern adherence.


  • Pattern Quality Control: Oversee the execution of drill patterns, ensuring all holes are drilled to the correct depth, angle, and location as specified by design.


  • Blast Performance: Lead the loading and tie-in process of explosives to ensure optimal fragmentation and wall stability while minimizing vibration and overpressure.


  • Operational Readiness: Ensure mine-site assets, specifically drill rigs and blasting equipment, are maintained and ready for scheduled operations.


  • Field Design Support: Support the creation of detailed blast designs


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • Education: Degree or Diploma from a Community College or University in Engineering, Technical, or Trades discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in drilling and blasting activities in an open pit environment.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and grow a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safety Excellence: Deep familiarity with MSHA regulations (current MSHA preferred). Ability to obtain Employee Possessor status
  • Proficiency: Strong grasp of drill patterns, initiation systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of drill pattern design and drilling sequence
  • Knowledge of electronic and non-el initiation systems
  • Knowledge of clearing and blocking procedures
  • Knowledge of loading practices for ANFO and Emulsion products
