Full Job Description
STV has an exciting opportunity for a Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer in either our Franklin or Chattanooga, TN locations. This role is ideal for an experienced drainage and hydraulics engineer who is ready to take on greater technical leadership, guide complex design efforts, support public-sector clients, and mentor early-career staff while contributing to high-visibility transportation programs. Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Independently prepare culvert/bridge hydrologic & hydraulic studies
  • Independently prepare and submit stormwater permit documentation through various agencies
  • Participate in project development meetings
  • Serve as the lead drainage engineer and Engineer of Record on projects as directed by senior staff.
  • Provide professional design services for transportation improvement projects, including storm drains, culverts, storm water management, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Coordinate design development and assist with technical direction of junior staff
  • Achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
  • Independently prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
  • Establishing working relationships and interface with client technical staff and project managers
  • Mentoring supporting water resource design staff
  • The candidate will be independently designing and mentoring junior staff for successful project outcomes.


Qualifications and Skills:
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • 10+ years' of related experience
  • PE licensure in TN or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • TDOT design experience preferred
  • TDEC Level I and Level II EPSC certification preferred
  • Experience in design with highways, intersections, roundabouts, interchanges, widenings, and bike/ped facilities.
  • Experience or familiarity with OpenRoads Design (ORD) and/or Geopak
  • Candidate should possess knowledge and experience of TDOT and Local government design and permitting requirements.
  • Experience using hydrologic and hydraulic software such as Geopak Drainage, SUDA, StormCAD, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS modeling.
  • Experience preparing permit applications for local, state, and federal agencies is a plus
  • Strong inter-personal skills for client and other engineering discipline interaction


Compensation Range:
$118,489.97 - $135,417.11
