Digital Product Owner – Chromatography Data Systems (CDS)

Within the Digital Operations & Strategy (DOS) department of Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS) we harness the power of data, technology, predictive modeling, and informatics to inform decisions. We aim to enable a digitally enabled organization that speeds up life-saving treatment development.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Digital Product Owner for Chromatography Data Systems (CDS) to join our dynamic team and lead the future of chromatography data across J&J’s development laboratories. You will set the product direction for Empower, OpenLab CDS and Chromeleon, connect scientific workflows with trusted data, and guide a global network of experts through the next phase of laboratory digitalization.

The CDS Business System Owner (BSO) is accountable for shaping, delivering, and sustaining the business vision, strategy, and value realization of Empower, Openlab CDS, and Chromeleon across TDS laboratories.
This role owns the end0end Chromatography Data system landscape, including integrations with adjacent lab systems, and serves as the primary business authority ensuring architectural consistency, regulatory compliance, and adoption across sites and functions. The BSO partners closely with DOS System Architects, System Integrators, Business SMEs, and functional stakeholders to ensure Chromatography Data Systems deliver measurable business value.

The successful candidate will be a proactive and effective problem solver who is intellectually curious and has a strong interest in data and how it supports the development of innovative, life-saving treatments.

Role and responsibilities

  • Design & Implement Software Solutions: Together with functional business leaders, data architects and IT, define CDS’ future state, driven by business value.

  • Regulatory, Audit & SOP Management Support: Represent business user requirements during system upgrades, validations, and regulatory inspections to ensure compliance, data integrity, and operational excellence. Own and coordinate SOP lifecycle management, ensuring procedures remain aligned with the validated system state. Ensure robust support and incident management processes are in place, safeguarding continuous compliance and maintaining the validated state of manufacturing systems, under the leadership of the CDS Business Owner.

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Work closely with TDS stakeholders to align strategies, prioritize system enhancements, and promote widespread adoption of data solutions.

  • Data Lifecycle Management: Have a solid understanding of the entire data process - from collection to analysis - adhering to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles.

  • Collaborate with Scientific Experts: Partners closely with Business System SMEs and Technical Application Owner to guide feature design, ensuring seamless data integration and usability.

  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vendors of laboratory, manufacturing, and data analytics systems to ensure quality, compliance, and innovation.

  • Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement: Identify and resolve system and data issues, proposing both immediate fixes and long-term improvements.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead or contribute to projects across departments, fostering collaboration and innovation. Drive adoption and business value realization of systems and data.

  • Business value realization: Shape and deliver the business vision for CDSs within the broader lab system landscape. Translate business strategy into system and architecture roadmaps, ensuring alignment globally.

  • Connect: Actively network within the industry and enterprise supply chain to proactively benchmark, exchange knowledge and bring in best practices.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher inChemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharma or related sciences/engineering disciplines.

  • Minimum of5 years of relevant industry experiencein pharmaceutical, biotech, or related sectors.

  • Deep understanding oflaboratory systemssupporting pharmaceutical process development and clinical manufacturing. Hands-on experience with Empower, Openlab CDS, or Chromeleon is preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations; proven understanding of GAMP and SDLC requirements is preferred.

  • Experience with FAIR data principles and digital transformation projects is preferred.

  • Organizational and project management skills, balancing multiple complex projects with effective customer management.
