Full Job Description
Overview

This role will join our Texas Oncology - San Antonio region Radiation team consisting of 4 clinics supported by 6 dosimetrists, 5 physicists,14 radiation therapists, and 5 radiation oncologists. Travel to the sites could be required. More information on travel and site coverage will be provided during the interview.

In collaboration with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop, generate, and evaluate treatment plans using computer software and manual calculations based on prescribed target region and avoidance dose criteria. The Dosimetrist may use a wide variety of patient imaging modalities registered to the planning images, which assists in the identification of physician delineated target structures and critical structures to be avoided. Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Must be able to generate radiation therapy treatment plans in a timely manner using computer software and various imaging modalities, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to adapt to ever-changing technology and be open to learning new systems and techniques.
  • Must be able to perform routine duties independent of supervision but consult with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required.
  • Must be able to consult and communicate with the therapists regarding the implementation of the treatment plan including: the correct use of immobilization devices, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.
  • Must be able to perform or supervise the design and fabrication of immobilization devices, beam modifying devices (i.e., compensating filters, bolus, molds, custom shields, etc.) and treatment planning aids.
  • Strong experience with Varian LINACs, Eclipse TPS, ARIA, RadCalc, EZFluence, ClearCheck, AutoContour, and MiM Software are a plus

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Medical Dosimetrist will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Credentials as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in planning VMAT, IMRT, SBRT/SRT, and 3D plans
  • Prior work in a Varian linear accelerator environment a plus
