Description

Job Summary:

  • Dosimetrist II is an advanced level dosimetrist position that has a comprehensive understanding of clinical medical dosimetry. They will be responsible for designing, generating, measuring, and calculating radiation dose distributions for external beam radiation therapy.


Job Function / Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Design a treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the radiation oncologist's prescription.


  • Assists in planning or production of molds, casts, shielding, immobilization devices, and/or beam apertures.


  • Verify the radiation dose that patients receive on their treatments, having an advanced understanding of both simple and complex radiotherapy treatment plans.


  • Answer questions from Radiation Therapists about daily treatment setups.


  • Initiate appropriate action to have equipment repaired as needed.


  • Provides technical assistance to Medical Physicists when requested for quality assurance.


  • Other duties assigned by the Dosimetry Supervisor.


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently.


  • Ability to use Varian Treatment Planning software proficiently.


  • Ability to import and fuse diagnostic imaging (knowledge of Eclipse and Velocity fusion software).


  • Ability to plan the most difficult and complex radiotherapy plans including 3D, IMRT, and SBRT plans.


  • Ability to composite prior radiation treatments and estimate biologically equivalent doses for plan sums.


  • This position has access to confidential information concerning patients and requires dependability, good judgment, and a high degree of professionalism.


  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including representing themselves in a professional manner.


  • Excellent interpersonal communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.


Education and Experience:

  • Graduate from a JCERT accredited Medical Dosimetry School or program.


  • Certification in Medical Dosimetry by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).


  • An advanced working knowledge of IMRT, VMAT, and SBRT treatment planning.
