Responsibilities

  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to perform medical dosimetry procedures.
  • Collaborate with medical physicists and radiation oncologists to generate radiation dose distributions and calculations.
  • Conduct tumor localization and create computerized treatment plans.
  • Construct blocks and compensators as part of treatment development.
  • Document initial patient treatment charts and verify their accuracy and completeness.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in all clinical procedures laid out in the dosimetry role.
  • Participate actively as a member of the radiation oncology team, contributing to treatment planning efforts.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

A Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is an individual who uses critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of medical dosimetry procedures. The medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, is cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy and has the education and experience necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with the medical physicist and radiation oncologist. Responsible for tumor localization, computerized treatment planning, dose calculations, block and compensator construction, and initial chart documentation. Verifies chart accuracy and completeness.

Job Requirements

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • One year of practical clinical experience in Radiation Dosimetry to include treatment planning and simulation is preferred. New graduates with proper clinical rotations during the individual training and demonstrated competencies will be considered.
  • Ideal candidate will have a total of at least 18 months of experience between study, training, and direct experience related to the position.
  • Bachelors Degree in Radiation Therapy, Radiation Science, Radiography, Physics or related scientific discipline, required.
  • Demonstrated completion of 1,000 clinical curriculum hours in medical dosimetry treatment planning during Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) course of study, required.
  • Be a graduate of a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT accredited program of at least 12 months OR a JRCERT Masters Degree program, required.
  • Medical Dosimetrist Certification (Board Eligible) within 18 months of hire date or transfer.
  • Candidates that are already holding dosimetry board certification will be considered to have met all the requirements.

Physical Requirements - Medium Work - Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly
