What We Can Achieve Together:

As a member of the Florida Business Unit philanthropy team, the Donor Communications Manager develops and oversees a comprehensive communications strategy to support major and principal gift fundraising in Florida (prospects with capacity to give $100,000+ to TNC), including setting the vision and managing implementation of the plan. They develop materials that communicate a compelling case for donor support of Florida's conservation goals as well as TNC's broader global conservation vision. They manage donor communications staff and work collaboratively with philanthropy, finance, executive, and conservation staff in the FLBU, as well as staff across TNC, to develop communications strategies and materials.

Essential Functions:

The Donor Communications Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy and plan for Florida supporting principal and major gift fundraising. They use knowledge of local, regional, and global conservation strategies, donor communication tools and technologies, and industry best practices to develop plans. They work with fundraisers on strategic marketing plans for Florida wealth markets.

The Donor Communications Manager develops content for campaigns, written solicitation materials, impact/grant reports, and other stewardship that is outcome based and supports TNC's focus on flexible fundraising. They translate complex science and conservation into inspiring cases for donor support, integrating donor interests and motivations into the content they produce. They maintain knowledge of key issues in conservation and TNC fundraising priorities in Florida, the Southern Division, the North America Region, and globally.

The Donor Communications Manager writes, edits, designs and oversees production of donor communications that may include corporate, foundation, and individual proposals, stewardship and grant reports, campaign case and other campaign collateral, appeal and acknowledgement letters, speeches/scripts, annual statewide impact reports, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, event collateral, and other conservation updates. They work with finance, conservation and philanthropy operations staff to develop budgets, ensure philanthropic requests align with conservation priorities, and ensure requests meet requirements to be recorded within TNC's financial structure once received. They help manage corporate and foundation grant submission and reporting requirements.

The Donor Communications Manager works with outside vendors providing writing, design, and printing/mail house services. They work with Marketing to coordinate and complement efforts. They manage administrative and/or professional staff. They set team goals and metrics to evaluate success. They provide recommendations and targeted donor communications training for staff. They treat all information in accordance with TNC's privacy and security SOP.

Responsibilities & Scope:

  • Accountability for strategic goals related to functional area.
  • Act independently and in supervisor's stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Financial responsibility includes assisting with the development of a budget, working within a budget, and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
  • Manage and implement multiple projects, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • May manage or participate in complex negotiations.
  • May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
  • Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.

  • Proficient in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.


This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

Salary Information:

The starting annual pay for this position is within the range of $75,000 - $91,500. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA and whose location is within the state of Florida. Where a successful candidate's pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including location, qualifications, skills, and experience. More specific ranges based on city are:

Greater Orlando, Tallahassee, Cape Coral, Port St. Lucie, and most other locations in Florida: $75,000 - $82,500

Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Hialeah: $75,200 - $91,500
