Physical Requirements Requires heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects over 50 pounds; animal handling (including carcasses); risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; exposure to temperature extremes, cuts/punctures, and bloodborne/airborne pathogens.
Shift Days (Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm), On-Call required, rotating weekends, holidays and evenings as needed. Please be aware that as an exempt position, job duties will occasionally require additional time in the evenings, nights, holidays and/or weekends to accomplish work goals in excess of 40 hours per week.
Job Summary Advance Animal Care, Research Excellence, and Regulatory ComplianceThe University of Kentucky is seeking a
Senior Laboratory Animal Veterinarian to provide clinical leadership and veterinary oversight within the
Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR).
This position sits at the intersection of laboratory animal medicine, research support, and regulatory compliance, helping ensure the highest standards of animal welfare while supporting the university's research, teaching, and testing missions.
What You'll Do- Provide veterinary care and clinical oversight for research animals across DLAR facilities
- Lead and coordinate clinical veterinary operations, including staff assignments and medical case management
- Conduct facility rounds and monitor animal health, welfare, and regulatory compliance
- Support investigators through protocol development, animal model consultation, and veterinary guidance
- Review and provide input on IACUC and biosafety protocols to ensure compliance and animal welfare standards
- Participate in inspections, accreditation activities, regulatory reporting, and program assessments
- Develop and maintain SOPs, guidance documents, and training programs
- Support surgical, breeding, quarantine, and specialized veterinary programs as needed

Minimum Requirements- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
- 3 years of relevant experience
