The Division Director will provide strategic leadership for the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at UVA, overseeing clinical services, trainee education, research initiatives, and administrative operations. This role includes developing and implementing divisional goals aligned with departmental strategy, advancing clinical and academic programs, and fostering excellence in patient care, education, and discovery. The successful candidate will demonstrate visionary leadership, a strong academic record, and a commitment to advancing innovative, patient- and family-centered care for children with cancer and blood disorders. Preference will be given to candidates with an established research program, a history of successful mentorship, and demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams.
The Division Director will lead a collaborative team of faculty and advanced practice providers dedicated to providing comprehensive care for children with hematologic disorders, childhood cancers, sickle cell disease, bleeding and clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and survivors of pediatric cancer. UVA Health Children's provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pediatric hematology and oncology services, including access to advanced chemotherapy, immunotherapy, stem cell transplantation through collaborative partnerships, clinical trials, survivorship programs, and multidisciplinary supportive care. The Division works closely with specialists across UVA Health, including pediatric surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, genetics, pharmacy, nursing, social work, psychology, child life, rehabilitation services, and palliative care to provide coordinated, family-centered care.
The Division Director will foster continued growth of the Division's clinical, educational, and research missions while strengthening collaborations across the University of Virginia Cancer Center and the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will support faculty development, expand clinical research opportunities, mentor trainees and junior faculty, and advance quality improvement initiatives that improve outcomes for children with hematologic and oncologic diseases.
QualificationsThe position is open to individuals with an M.D. or D.O. degree who are board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty. Candidates must qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank on either the tenure-eligible or non-tenure eligible track, as appropriate. Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, faculty development, and program growth is strongly preferred.
