Overview

The District Manager oversees the operations, performance, and leadership of all retail stores within an assigned district, reporting directly to the Vice President of Store Operations. This role is responsible for driving sales, maximizing profitability, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. The District Manager provides strong leadership, supports Store Managers in hiring and development, enforces company policies, and serves as a key communication link between stores and the Home Office. Success in this role requires excellent leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to inspire high-performing teams.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop Store Managers and store teams to achieve district sales and profit goals.
  • Regularly visit stores to assess performance, provide guidance, and ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions within the district.
  • Provide consistent training and coaching on profitability, expense control, sales strategies, and operational best practices.
  • Ensure all stores comply with company policies, procedures, legal requirements, and safety standards.
  • Communicate company strategies, goals, and expectations to Store Management.
  • Monitor key reports such as Petty Cash, House Accounts, Damaged Disposition, and more to ensure accountability.
  • Support new store openings, special events, and seasonal priorities as assigned.
  • Handle escalated customer issues and ensure high customer service standards across stores.
  • Track PTO schedules to ensure appropriate store coverage.
  • Stay informed on local market trends and competitive activity that may impact business.
  • Conduct regular district meetings to align store leadership and drive engagement.
  • Build and develop strong internal talent pipelines for future leadership opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent and open communication with Store Management and Home Office teams.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 5+ years of successful retail management experience, with at least 2 years in multi-store leadership.
  • Proven track record in district management or progressive retail leadership roles.
  • Strong operational expertise in merchandising, inventory control, financial management, and team development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including extended hours during peak seasons (e.g. holidays, rodeos, special events).
  • Ability to travel frequently, up to 75% of the time, to meet district and company needs.

Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in western related industries.
  • Ability to inspire, coach, and develop Store Managers and teams to achieve high performance and growth.
  • Strong understanding of sales drivers, profit and loss (P&L) management, and the ability to align district operations with company goals.
  • Comfortable leading teams through change, implementing company initiatives, and responding quickly to shifting market conditions.
