Main responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the efficient operation and the maximization of sales and profits of all retail
  • stores within assigned area. Ensure that operations are consistent with established Company
  • policies and objectives. Maintain clean, efficient, well-stocked stores with competitive prices and fast friendly customer service.

    Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Provide guidance and instruction to individual Store Directors and Operations Specialists to enable them to operate their district at maximum efficiency.
  • Work with and counsel retail store directors and department managers in all aspects of merchandising for increased sales and profits.
  • Review and approve operating budgets with Store Directors. Assist them in compiling, reviewing, and analyzing P & L projections and statements, charting, scheduling, and recommending equipment needs, expenditures and maintenance, controlling labor costs and assisting with labor planning.
  • Implement Company and Division policies, procedures, and programs and monitor stores to ensure compliance with established guidelines. Work constantly to control operating costs and maximize return on investment.
  • Review advertising and promotional needs and work with Marketing personnel to improve advertising effectiveness. Develop marketing plans for new/remodeled stores.
  • Review and monitor in-store signing programs. Monitor competitive operations in assigned area and implement aggressive plans to counteract loss of sales and profits. Communicate changes to Division Office staff and coordinate sales plans to maintain sales. Keep abreast of new ideas and innovations in the grocery industry.
  • Visit all assigned stores on a regular basis. Monitor pricing, advertising, shrink, order-writing, stock rotation, accounting procedures, product mix, inventories, safety, sanitation, grosses, employee relations and labor productivity on a continuing basis. Provide technical assistance and training to store and department managers as necessary.
  • Set and monitor standards, within prescribed Company and Division guidelines, regarding quality, variety, and general appearance of products, store conditions and levels of customer service.
  • Support and implement Company policies and procedures. Provide data to Division and Corporate Management regarding the operation of stores within the assigned area.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Company personnel, suppliers, and the community in general.
  • Ensure retail stores operate within all federal, state and local laws and maintain good working relationships with these agencies. Work to enhance employee morale and motivate and train store personnel in maintaining good customer relations.
  • Handle customer and employee complaints as necessary through oral or written communications.
  • Assist store personnel in using and interpreting IS&T reports, becoming proficient with new technology used in the stores, and utilizing it to its maximum advantage.
  • Attend weekly sales meetings with Division Office staff, periodic meetings with store directors and department heads, to communicate Division goals and plans, and to address and resolve problems.

    People Responsibilities
  • Directly - up to 20 Store Directors and 6 Operations Specialists; Indirectly - All Associates

    Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred and/or extensive and specialized knowledge of assigned product lines with previous experience in merchandising or retail grocery operations required.

Soft Skills
  • Possess working knowledge of procurement procedures, economics, marketing,
  • mathematics, and accounting principles. Possess ability to analyze and interpret data from
  • computer reports and respond with the appropriate remedy.
  • Must possess good organizational and supervisory skills and be capable of managing large
  • numbers of employees effectively. Possess the ability to motivate and work with and
  • through others to achieve desired results.
  • General knowledge of retail applications, computer capabilities and prior experience with
  • personal computer applications required.
  • Possess good verbal, written and public speaking communications skills.
  • Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone. Must have the ability to represent the company's interest to outside vendors.
  • Requires analytical ability and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.
  • Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.

    Physical Environment
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment or in the store.
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
  • Travel up to 60% of time to company units throughout the division.

Pay Transparency:

Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation Pay or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays, bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
