Full Job Description
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Standard Motor Products, Inc. Lewisville, Texas Distribution Center is currently seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as the Director of Distribution. This position reports to the VP of Distribution.

As the Director of Distribution, you are responsible for managing, coaching, and training the facility leadership team to meet established productivity requirements. Your goal is to ensure your team maintains the highest levels of customer service, safety, quality, performance, attendance, and engagement. Daily responsibilities will include driving superior results in the distribution center departments, maintaining work standards, driving our continuous improvement program, and ensuring Associate engagement remains a top priority. You will be expected to innovate new approaches, refine current processes, and improve our efficiencies. Most importantly you will be expected to maintain a focus on Associate retention.

  • This position will directly oversee all distribution operations at the Lewisville Distribution Center (with a footprint of more than 400,000 square feet)
  • In partnership with VP of Distribution will drive the strategy, goals and priorities, down to the operations team, while maintaining an agile approach that allows us to adapt as business conditions change
  • Driving a Performance and Continuous Improvement Culture
  • Communicate, track and partner with the IT Business Analysts to develop meaningful solutions to keep up with the ever changing landscape of the business
  • Working with the Operations Managers, this role will troubleshoot day-to-day problems and identify long-term resolutions
  • Research operational inefficiencies and make procedural or systematic recommendations to other members of the Logistics leadership team.
  • Communicate clear goals, expectations, and standards to the Operations teams on an on-going basis, including varying levels of communication for direct reports, support teams, associates, cross-functional teams and executive level updates as needed
  • Invest in training and development for teams and associates to grow internal bench strength and create healthy succession pipelines
  • Ensure the facility (each shift) operates with industry best practices in the areas of Efficiency, Customer Service, Quality and Safety
  • Collaborate with key partners on the creation of monthly and annual plans (budget forecast, labor planning and shipping KPI's)
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility through labor and supply cost control
  • Work to ensure that the Lewisville Distribution Center is striving to have a local and national "Employer of Choice" status

• Partner with the Human Resource Department to facilitate development plans, reviews, interviews, hiring, terminations, and coaching
• Provide Managers and Supervisors with meaningful developmental opportunities through effective job rotations, projects, coaching and feedback
  • Partner with HR and Operations leadership to champion actions plans that come from our employee engagement surveys

• Conduct monthly listening sessions with various members of the team to understand areas of opportunity to increase engagement and retention
• This role will empower team members to deliver results against established goals and priorities, while creating an environment where everyone can do their best work
  • Establish community outreach through volunteer events and assisting in local government & school functions.


Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Four year degree, preferably in the areas of Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering (or equivalent work experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in the distribution environment
  • Applicable management experience (5+ years as an Operations Manager preferred)
  • Strong experience with WMS (Manhattan preferred) and JDE
  • Extensive experience working in environment that includes Voice Pick Technology & software, RF. Labor Standards and Slotting.
  • Strong experience with performance metrics and process improvement
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to handle changing priorities and use of good judgement in stressful situations
  • Ability to motivate others with strong conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions and terminations
  • Must be available and flexible for a variety of hours. Business demands will include overnight, weekends and holidays at times.
  • Experience with capital planning and vendor management
