OverviewThis position is responsible for providing technical and administrative supervision of the Electric Distribution Design group. Provides Distribution Design support in areas of technical and managerial complexity. Performs billable work for clients within area of expertise. Serves as the lead interface for the group with other company departments, outside consultants, clients, contractors, suppliers, and others on technically related matters.
This role can be filled by a candidate who will be based out of Huntersville, Asheville, or Greenville. Responsibilities- Take a lead role in building the Distribution EMC Design group by assisting with hiring employees, marketing services, and providing outstanding service to clients.
- Assign and schedule work as required to meet client requirements, assuring the highest quality and most efficient use of resources.
- Responsible for complete and accurate record keeping of all work performed by their Distribution Design team.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control on all work performed by their Distribution Design team.
- With the assistance of Distribution Supervisors and Managers, administer company policies, salary administration, training, safety (both company and client specific), employee development, and performance evaluations for the employees in the Distribution EMC Design team.
- Approve time sheets and expenses for direct reports.
- Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by the project guidelines (and/or Management) and continuously monitor employee utilization.
- Manage field personnel.
- Perform various field technical services supporting distribution design projects such as grid improvement projects, power facility maintenance programs, system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, lighting audits, etc.
- Perform field data collection utilizing laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS units, and other electronic devices to collect data for input into database software as necessary.
- Follow prescribed standards and procedures.
- Manage a large number of tasks simultaneously.
- Quickly grasp and master new software programs including work management systems, design tools, etc.
- Provide Storm Damage Assessment support.
- Perform function of a project lead on projects.
- Navigate difficult conversations as needed.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, OR Associate's Degree in an Engineering or Technology related field, OR a sufficient combination of experience and education (at the discretion of the hiring team).
- 3+ years of utility distribution design experience with a utility or consulting engineering firm with demonstrated project capability.
- Experience with a wide variety of distribution project types such as reconductoring, relocations, circuit extensions, load transfers, voltage conversions, equipment retrofits, SCADA equipment installations, 3rd party pole attachment projects, fiber design, construction coordination, post construction inspection, etc.
- Experience handling client relations and communications with other agencies in connection with project design responsibilities.
- Experience managing projects and leading a team through successful projects.
- Demonstrated leadership and technical capability to perform job responsibilities.
- Track record of training and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Thorough knowledge of NESC as it pertains to distribution level power (35kV and under) and communication facilities.
- Experience utilizing industry standard pole modeling and loading tools (SPIDAcalc, PoleForeman, O-calc)
- Experience working in the field and office.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
Salary RangeUSD $30.11 - USD $50.49 /Hr.
