Full Job Description
Step into a high-impact technical leadership role driving the architecture, development, and modernization of enterprise-scale broadband network systems. As a core technical authority, you will design cloud-native Java/Spring Boot microservices and leverage advanced device management protocols (TR-069 and TR-369) to process billions of automated telemetry pings across national device fleets. This role goes beyond writing code; you will architect algorithmic self-healing frameworks, spearhead massive on-prem to AWS migrations, and set the standard for engineering excellence while mentoring a talented team of developers. If you excel at solving complex architectural bottlenecks and scaling fault-tolerant infrastructure, you will be at the forefront of shaping our next-generation network capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution & Architecture: Leading the design, development, and deployment of complex Java/Spring Boot cloud-native microservices, automated remote telemetry layers, and device configuration engines using advanced TR-069 and TR-369 (User Services Platform - USP) software stacks across national broadband networks and device fleets.
Complex Problem Solving: Serving as the ultimate escalation point for the most difficult technical roadblocks, bugs, and system performance issues, utilizing Splunk & Grafana Operational Dashboards to monitor system health and establishing algorithmic self-healing frameworks to optimize device behavior remotely.
Code & Quality Standards: Establishing and enforcing rigorous standards for code quality, system reliability, security, and scalability across the team, specifically integrating secure SOAP/RESTful web services, automated data transformation pipelines, and modern encryption postures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with Product Management, Operations, Global Supply Chain, Finance, and other engineering teams to translate business requirement analyses into highly available network-wide feature updates on schedule.
Mentorship & Leadership: Acting as a technical mentor and guide for mid-level and senior engineers (MTS/SMTS) and vendor contract teams, fostering a culture of engineering excellence through strict code reviews and Agile/Waterfall sprint structuring.
Innovation: Evaluating new technologies, tools, and methodologies, presenting recommendations to leadership for adoption where they provide clear business value and advanced network frameworks.
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Experience in software engineering, network architecture, or systems design, with a history of leading large-scale technical projects and Enterprise Server Migrations (On-prem to Cloud).
Experience in Java / Spring Boot (Microservices), C/C++, or Python for core systems automation and service development.
Expertise in AWS Cloud Infrastructure (EC2, Aurora RDS, Lambda, S3), enterprise Linux (CentOS/Ubuntu), and legacy Solaris environments, with a track record of driving complex on-prem to cloud server migrations.
Experience in Production-level development and configuration with TR-069 (CWMP) and TR-369 (USP) protocol stacks, TR-181 data models, and remote broadband device management agents.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
History of delivering large-scale Cost-Avoidance Modeling or high-impact architecture modernizations.
Practical experience building and scaling containerized environments via Docker and Kubernetes, alongside automated CI/CD pipeline tools including Jenkins, GitLab CI, TFS, Maven, and Ansible.
Strong background in database design, querying, and performance tuning across Oracle SQL (PL/SQL), PostgreSQL or MySQL,, using Apache Tomcat and WebLogic application servers.
Proven ability to design and deliver highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable systems capable of handling billions of automated telemetry data pings and background performance optimizations.
Proven mastery of SOAP/RESTful web services, structured data handling, and operational monitoring via Splunk and Grafana dashboards.
Comprehensive understanding of enterprise source control management workflows using Git.
Previous experience operating as a technical lead or Principal-level engineer in an enterprise environment.
Strong track record of contributing to open-source projects, patents, or international telecom consortia (e.g., prpl Foundation and Broadband Forum TR-369 / User Services Platform standards).
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
