Discipline Lead - MEP - acts as a specialist expert in specific projects in British-Columbia and, potentially in other provinces of western Canada. His / Her involvement spans both projects under development (Pre-Construction and Tendering) and projects under construction. He / She will be working in close collaboration with local MEP operations in all activities.

What you will do

Design Development during proposal phase
• Take full knowledge of the documents provided by the client during the proposal phase for the discipline.
• Verify the scope of the consultant responsible for the design of the discipline (the "Consultant") and identify any scope gap.
• From the onset, establish, with the Consultant, the design strategy and guidelines for the project.
• Be part of the discussion regarding the procurement strategy established by the construction team to undertake the work in the discipline.
• Develop, in collaboration with the Consultant and the subcontractor related to the discipline (the "Specialty Subcontractor") if it is selected, efficient concepts and alternatives, in compliancy with the client's requirements.
• During design development, optimize the design within the established objectives to ensure its constructability, identify and help correct discrepancies between the design and construction.
• Participate in design meetings, as needed, with the design project team.
• Participate in discipline specific meetings with Operations, the Consultant and the Specialty Subcontractor.
• Work in collaboration with the Design Manager assigned to the project and keep him/her informed of the developments with the Consultant.
• Verify and comment the Compliance Matrix for the discipline.
• Ensure the communication and the information transfer between the Consultant and the construction team, especially with the Specialty Subcontractor involved in the discipline.
• Be an active participant in the estimation process to develop the most efficient solutions.
• Help the estimation team prepare the project budget by clarifying the design intent and assisting in alternate material compliance.
• If needed, take part in design sessions with the client and clarify the technical questions, if any, via Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Develop and implement design review procedures, ensuring quality and conformity to client's requirements and applicable norms.
• Participate in risks identification and mitigation measures in relation with the discipline.
• Review and validate drawings and technical documents before official issuances for compliancy.

Project implementation
• Once the contract is signed, maintain design management duties and collaborate with the design team until the design is finalized, ensuring a timely transition with the design and/or construction team.
• Participate in the negotiations with the Specialty Subcontractor for its contract and pricing.
• Support construction team in project optimization and problem resolution.
• Carry out any task agreed with the Project Director regarding construction, commissioning, whether through factory or site tests.

This role could be for you if you have
• Have bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (Building or related). A master degree specialized in field related to building's mechanical systems is a strong asset.
• Be a member of a professional regulating body.
• Preference for job experience of minimum 15 years of experience, including at least 10 in a design role in the discipline.
• Be recognized as an expert in its discipline.
• Have experience in building projects (especially ones with architectural complexities, mechanical electrical and other sophisticated systems) delivered through Design & Build, Public-Private-Partnership (P3) or other alternative contractual modes.
• Have experience in establishment of concepts and work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Having both design experience (consultant firms) and construction experience (general or specialized contractors) is considered an asset.
• Show initiative, innovation, discipline and leadership in the planning and development of concepts.
• Be familiar with Building Information Modeling-Virtual Design Construction (BIM-VDC) models.
• Demonstrate an analytical mind, an ability to synthesize information, a sound judgement and strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Collaborate efficiently with all team members, partners and clients.
• Be comfortable in rapid-changing, stressful environments.
• Have a solution-oriented mindset and the ability to mobilize people.
• French will be consider an asset
