Full Job Description
Trueline is seeking a Heavy Civil Dirt Estimator to join their team in Lewiston, Maine with a well-established heavy civil contractor serving Central Maine, This is a high-priority opportunity for an experienced estimator who can independently build competitive bids for excavation, earthwork, site development, grading, and underground utility projects while working closely with company ownership.

What You'll Do as the Heavy Civil Dirt Estimator:
  • Lead estimating efforts for excavation, grading, earthwork, site development, and underground utility projects
  • Review civil drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using Agtek, Stack, and related tools
  • Build complete estimates from the ground up in HCSS HeavyBid
  • Analyze labor, equipment, material, production, and subcontractor costs
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and visit project sites to evaluate conditions and scope requirements
  • Solicit, review, and compare vendor and subcontractor pricing
  • Develop preliminary project schedules and sequencing plans
  • Prepare bid proposals and support final bid closings
  • Coordinate bid bond requirements
  • Identify scope gaps, project risks, and potential cost-saving opportunities
  • Provide organized project turnover information to Project Management and Accounting
  • Collaborate directly with ownership and operations throughout the bidding process

Must-Haves as the Heavy Civil Dirt Estimator:
  • Experience estimating excavation, earthwork, grading, underground utility, or site development projects
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means, methods, equipment, and production rates
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical information
  • Experience developing detailed quantity takeoffs
  • Ability to build complete estimates using labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor inputs
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Clear communication and a collaborative working style
  • Ability to work from the Lewiston office
  • Ability to manage estimates independently while coordinating with ownership and project teams

  • Central or Southern Maine heavy civil estimating experience

  • Experience preparing preliminary project schedules
  • Familiarity with bid bonds and public bidding requirements
  • Background coordinating estimate turnover with Project Management and Accounting
