We are seeking an experienced and technically deep Director of Web Engineering to lead our web platform engineering organization. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of hands-on technical architecture and scalable team leadership. You will own the end-to-end web engineering function - from setting architectural standards and driving quality processes to shipping production-grade systems - with a particular emphasis on analytics platforms and embedded web solutions. You will partner closely with product, design, data, and infrastructure teams to define the technical direction of our web engineering practice, champion engineering excellence, and build a culture of quality, velocity, and accountability. What You'll Do Technical Architecture & Hands-On Engineering • Define and own the overall web platform architecture, making key decisions around frontend frameworks, design patterns, performance strategy, and scalability • Actively participate in hands-on design and code reviews, prototyping critical systems and setting the standard for implementation quality • Drive the evolution of the core platform including rendering patterns (SSR/SSG/CSR), design implementation and micro-frontend architecture • Establish and enforce standards for accessibility (WCAG), performance budgets, and cross-browser compatibility • Own technical debt decisions - identifying, prioritizing, and resolving systemic engineering issues Embedded & Integrated Platforms • Architect and lead development of embedded web experiences including in-app webviews, iFrame-based integrations, embedded SDKs, and white-label platforms • Ensure embedded platform solutions meet strict performance, security, and sandboxing requirements across a variety of host environments • Define communication protocols between embedded web layers and native or third-party host applications • Drive standardization of web components and design system integration for use across embedded contexts Engineering Quality & Process • Define and own the engineering quality framework - including testing strategy (unit, integration, e2e, visual regression), CI/CD pipelines, and release processes • Establish SLOs/SLAs for web platform reliability, performance, and availability; lead incident response and blameless post-mortems • Champion a culture of documentation, observability, and operational readiness • Implement and iterate on engineering practices including code review standards, sprint rituals, and technical planning processes People Leadership & Strategy • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of senior engineers, tech leads, and engineering managers across web engineering disciplines • Own hiring for the web engineering organization, setting the bar for technical assessment and cultural fit • Partner with engineering leadership on roadmap planning, headcount strategy, and cross-functional OKRs • Represent web engineering in executive forums, communicating technical strategy and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders What We're Looking For Required Experience • 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a senior engineering leadership role (Director, Principal Engineer, or equivalent) • Deep, hands-on expertise in modern web technologies: TypeScript, React (or Vue/Angular), Node.js, GraphQL/REST, and browser platform APIs • Proven track record designing and scaling production web architectures serving high-traffic, global audiences • Demonstrated experience building and shipping embedded web products (webviews, SDKs, iframe integrations, widget platforms) • Deep understanding of web performance optimization - Core Web Vitals, rendering strategies, bundle optimization, caching, and observability • Extensive experience with modern CI/CD practices, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps tooling Preferred Qualifications • Background in design systems, component libraries, and cross-platform web UI consistency • Experience in B2B SaaS delivery • Familiarity with WebAssembly Leadership Attributes • A builder's mindset - you stay technically sharp and lead from experience, not abstraction • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex engineering topics for business audiences • Strong opinions, loosely held - you drive conviction while remaining genuinely open to new information • High standards for quality, paired with pragmatism about trade-offs in a fast-moving environment • A talent magnet who builds inclusive, high-performing teams and develops the next generation of engineering leaders The salary range in United States of America for this position is 184,000.00 to 231,000.00 USD Annual. Your specific offer within this range will be determined by your skills, experience, and qualifications. For non-sales roles, you may be eligible for a bonus.
