Description

The Director, Technical Solutions, leads the Technical Solutions Group (TSG), the firm's internally focused technical delivery arm. TSG serves as the front door for business enablement; the point where business partners bring their needs, and TSG builds the capacity and capability to build and deliver technology to Burns & McDonnell. This role is responsible for the overall operation, standards, and performance of the department, and for ensuring the organization has a reliable, scalable path from business need to delivered, supported technical solution.

This role reports to the Chief Innovation Officer (CNO). The Director works cross-functionally with the Managing Director of Data & AI, the Director of IT Infrastructure & Security, and the TSG lead for Burns & McDonnell India to ensure a unified, consistent delivery model across all business units and locations.

Core Responsibilities

Business & Delivery Engagement: Serve as the primary connective link between business units/locations and the delivery organization, including the India-based delivery team, in close partnership with Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) leadership.
  • Oversee the delivery managers and business partners who intake most of the work for business enablement, translating business needs into solutions.

Department Operations & Standards
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-wide standards, procedures, and operating practices for technical delivery.
  • Maintain consistent enterprise and solution architecture across all developed solutions.
  • Partner with the IT security organization to ensure all delivered solutions are secure and operable.
  • Partner with the Managing Director of Data & AI and the Director of IT Infrastructure & Security to align technical delivery with data, AI, infrastructure, and security capabilities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key 3rd Party delivery partners within the US, Latin America, and India who supplement the team's capacity and capabilities.

Organizational Scope & Oversight
  • Own all Technical Solutions capabilities across the organization, including delivery managers and their technical delivery teams, business enablement/business partner functions, TSG practice leads for Infrastructure, Construction, and Energy, and additional/expanded roles and locations as the organization grows.
  • Ensure consistent operating standards and delivery quality across all practices and locations.

Financial & Operational Accountability
  • Own department operations, including conformance to budget, chargeable time/utilization goals, operational KPIs and metrics, and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee the internal company marketing and acquisition of new work for the department.
  • Interface with finance on department performance and forecasting.

Talent & Team Leadership
  • Coordinate the hiring of delivery managers and the technical teams responsible for delivering the work.
  • Build a high-performing, cross-functional delivery organization spanning domestic, near shore, and India-based teams.
  • Develop career paths, mentorship, and succession planning for delivery leaders and technical talent.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related field from an accredited program and 14 years of related professional experience.
  • Experience managing teams and global/distributed delivery organizations, preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise and solution architecture governance, preferred.
  • Experience partnering with security, data/AI, and infrastructure organizations, preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen - budget management, utilization/chargeability, and P&L accountability for a technology delivery organization, preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in business development / selling technical services.
  • Experience building and leading global delivery teams, including offshore/nearshore models, preferred.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Must have expert knowledge in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Delivery cost held under $100/hour.

  • Chargeable time/utilization against department goals.
