Responsibilities

A day in the life

As Director, Technical Accounting, you will lead the evaluation of complex accounting matters and serve as a trusted advisor to accounting and business leaders across the organization. You will partner on significant transactions, emerging business initiatives, and accounting policy matters to support consistent application of U.S. GAAP and the company’s continued growth. You will independently identify emerging accounting issues and business risks, drive technical accounting initiatives from evaluation through implementation, and build trusted partnerships across the organization. You will also help strengthen the Technical Accounting function through scalable guidance, process improvements, and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the accounting evaluation of complex transactions and emerging accounting matters, including developing and documenting accounting positions and communicating conclusions to senior management and external auditors.
  • Partner across Operations, Finance, Legal, and Accounting to identify accounting implications early and support informed business decisions.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate global accounting policies, technical guidance, and training that promote consistent application of U.S. GAAP across the organization.
  • Monitor emerging accounting guidance and industry developments, assess business impacts, and lead implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Drive process improvements and scalable solutions that enhance the Technical Accounting function, including knowledge management, documentation, and technology-enabled efficiencies.
  • Support the review of significant technical accounting matters, SEC reporting, and financial statement disclosures, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and quarterly earnings releases.
  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as requested by senior management.

Building blocks for success

Required:

  • 8+ years of public accounting and/or technical accounting experience, including experience supporting a public company reporting environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.
  • Demonstrated expertise applying U.S. GAAP to complex transactions and developing practical, well-supported accounting conclusions.
  • Ability to independently manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Communication and relationship-building skills sufficient to establish credibility across accounting and business organizations.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters and documentation.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within commercial real estate or a global, multi-entity public company.
  • Experience with ASC 810 (Consolidation), ASC 842 (Lease Accounting), ASC 805 (Business Combinations), and complex real estate transactions.
  • Experience developing accounting policies, technical guidance, or organizational training programs.
  • Demonstrates willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.

Hiring Salary Range of $154,000 - $188,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI (Long Term Incentives) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
