Full Job Description
Vacancy Status: This is for a current opening.

Compensation: $165,000 - $185,000

Who You are

Purpose Unlimited needs its first dedicated tax leader - someone who will build the function, govern the platform, and make tax a strategic advantage across a multi-entity financial services group spanning asset management, wealth, and SME lending.

AI handles the assembly and monitoring layer - regulatory change monitoring, data aggregation, and first-pass analysis. You own the judgment and consequence layer: tax strategy, M&A structuring, product design input, and the governance of the AI-assisted infrastructure itself. This is what senior tax leadership looks like in 2026.

What you'll own
  • Set and govern tax strategy across the Purpose group - income tax, sales tax, investment funds, multi-entity structuring, M&A - with clear, defensible positions and unambiguous accountability
  • Own and oversee all corporate tax matters, including planning, structuring, and compliance across income tax, sales tax, and related areas
  • Advise our Asset Management Fund operational teams on fund level tax forecasting, fund distributions, and fund tax compliance
  • Lead tax structuring and diligence on M&A, corporate investments, and all new growth initiatives, coordinating external advisors and representing the tax function through transaction execution
  • Embed tax thinking in our Asset Management product development pipeline from ideation - ensuring investor outcomes are protected
  • Support client level tax compliance in our Wealth segments, providing guidance on regulations and best practices
  • Build, govern, and continuously improve the tax function itself

What you must bring
  • CPA designation with specialization in Canadian corporate tax
  • 7+ years in Canadian tax with financial services, asset management, or fund experience a preference
  • Experience in M&A tax structuring or diligence experience an asset

This is a genuine building mandate - not a maintenance role. Purpose's tax function needs to be built from the ground up by someone with the ambition and judgment to do it right. The platform's complexity - multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction, multi-product, and growing - means the technical demands are real. The AI frontier opportunity - governing compliance automation & tracking while owning the irreplaceable human layer - is ahead of most firms in this space. The mandate, the autonomy, and the executive visibility are all there.
