Job Description

Job Overview

The Director, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) is responsible for leading network-wide volume forecasting, labor planning, and operational readiness across Macy's Supply Chain. This role ensures that weekly facility-level forecasts are accurate, actionable, and aligned with enterprise expectations, enabling facilities to plan effectively and the network to remain balanced and customer-ready.

This role owns and drives a true process that creates one aligned, trusted end-to-end plan - connecting demand signals, supply and transportation constraints, labor models, and facility-level execution. The Director, S&OP ensures that all cross-functional partners are operating from the same set of assumptions, trade-offs, and decisions, with clear accountability from enterprise plans through floor execution.

This leader plays a critical role in identifying risks early, coordinating cross-functional responses, and ensuring that partners take timely, corrective action. The Director must be able to translate data into clear insights, challenge assumptions when needed, and influence cross-functional partners to make decisions that optimize throughput, cost, and service. When trends deviate, this leader is expected to press for answers, drive solutions, and ensure accountability-not simply communicate the issue.

The ideal candidate brings strong analytical rigor, an understanding of operational flow, and the confidence to navigate complex conversations across senior partners. They must be able to react quickly when forecasts shift or performance trends break down, while also contributing to longer-range strategies such as labor modeling, capacity readiness, and network balancing.

This role reports directly to the Senior Director, Supply Chain Strategy & Program Management and is a key member of the Supply Chain leadership team.

What You Will Do
  • Own Macy's end-to-end S&OP process, including leading cross-functional S&OP discussions that surface risks, quantify trade-offs, and drive timely decisions across Planning, Finance, Transportation, and Operations - ensuring partners are aligned to the final plan and accountable to outcomes.
  • Translate enterprise inbound and outbound guidance into weekly, facility-level forecasts using historical trends, transportation logic, and operational performance.
  • Proactively identify when forecasts are trending too high or too low. Escalate risks early to maintain network balance and protect service-partnering to shift volume strategically when facilities are constrained.
  • Track network and facility performance, highlight variances immediately, and diagnose root causes.
  • Raise call-outs and ensure action plans are created, owned, and delivered when performance deviates. The Director must be able to challenge partners, enforce timelines, and ensure follow-through.
  • Integrate operational changes, new initiatives, and process improvements into forecasting and labor planning so facilities remain appropriately staffed and always ready to support the business.
  • Continuously refine forecasting logic, tools, and processes to improve accuracy, reduce volatility, and support long-term planning and capacity strategies.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need
