The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Setting the Stage:

The Communications Director is primarily responsible for providing day-to-day leadership to the Communications team for all core activities pertaining to the planning, execution, and monitoring of communications tasks and projects.

The role oversees and supports the team s efforts with developing and implementing communication strategies that engage and inform diverse audiences and with developing and executing content and communications across a variety of channels that support the IT division s objectives and priorities.

The Communications Director collaborates with leadership and cross-functional teams to provide alternatives, recommendations, and solutions for communication strategies and plans.

The role works independently and ensures the prioritization of projects, as established by IT/project leadership, are maintained and executed, and escalates issues when needed,

The Communications Director is expected to be knowledgeable about, and adhere to, organizational policies, procedures, and business operations.

To Be Considered:

Education:
  • Preferred: Bachelor s degree
  • Minimum: Associate degree with 2 or more years of relevant work experience

Work Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, change management, or related field, preferably in healthcare or information technology
  • 3+ years of experience in Project Management

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or working toward certification

Additional Requirements
  • Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong ability to handle ambiguity and fluid priorities, change course when warranted, and manage multiple and competing priorities effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience functioning in a leadership capacity and supervising direct reports
  • Strong writing and editing skills to frame and convey key messages to a wide variety of internal and external audiences and to make complex topics easy to understand
  • Strong communication skills and the ability confidently provide council, ask clarifying questions, challenge the status quo, suggest alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Proficiency with standard business equipment and tools (eg Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with tools, such as Constant Contact, Canva, InDesign, P

Typical Day:
  • In addition to the duties discussed in the Role Description, the Communications Lead is responsible for the following, as assigned:
  • Overseeing communication strategies and development of communication plans that align with the organization s goals
  • Identifying and understanding target audiences, and developing and executing compelling, clear messages in support of IT initiatives
  • Writing, editing, and designing a variety of internal and external communications for the IT division, including but not limited to, email campaigns, electronic newsletters, online content, print collateral (e.g. flyers, posters, brochures), digital screens, videos, and presentations
  • Leveraging multiple communication channels, including, and meetings to generate engagement, publish key messages, and facilitate change management to diverse stakeholder groups
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication campaigns and acting, when warranted, to improve communication efforts
  • Collaborating with IT leadership/teams and RWJBH Corporate Marketing and Communications to ensure effective and consistent messaging and branding
  • Coordinating and/or participating in events, such as division meetings, workgroups, councils, and application go-live readiness assessments
  • Presenting communication topics at events
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including IT leadership/teams, operational leadership/staff, and RWJBH Corporate Marketing and Communications
  • Supporting team efforts with designing and developing communication templates and internal logos/icons
  • Planning, organizing, and chairing Communications meetings with operational leaders, Corporate Marketing and Communications, and cross-functional IT team members to disseminate information and prepare customers for the Epic (Electronic Health Application) Go-Lives
  • Managing and executing the Optimization/Change Management Communication process for Epic enhancements
  • Planning, executing, and coordinating projects with RWJBH Corporate Marketing and Communications and external print vendors for the design, development, production, and delivery of print marketing collateral (eg MyChart brochures, posters, palm cards, flyers, etc. ) for RWJBH Medical Group practices and hospitals
  • Validating vendor quotes and submitting requisitions and requests for cost approvals
  • Facilitating meetings with IT/project leadership to review team accomplishments, current priorities, and new leadership initiatives
  • Tracking and monitoring Communications team activities, projects, and workloads
  • Conducting team meetings to review status of deliverables, accomplishments, and upcoming milestones, and to address issues (and escalate issues, when needed),
  • Balancing team member workloads, as needed
  • Supervising direct reports
  • Conducting one-on-one meetings to review work priorities, provide feedback, resolve issues/conflicts, and address concerns or questions
  • Completing managerial/administrative tasks, including but not limited to, entering and approving payroll hours; reviewing and approving expense reports; submitting requisition requests for software license renewals; completing and delivering performance evaluations; monitoring staff completion of mandatory training; submitting team accomplishments; writing job descriptions; etc
  • Occasionally, working weekends and evenings for special events and/or urgent communication needs
