Respiratory Director - RWJBarnabas Health

A typical day for a Respiratory Director may include:
  • Providing operational and clinical leadership for the Respiratory Care Department during scheduled coverage.
  • Supervising Respiratory Care staff while ensuring compliance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and clinical standards.
  • Coordinating respiratory care services to meet the needs of patients across adult, neonatal, and critical care settings.
  • Serving as the department leader in the absence of the Assistant Director or other leadership, ensuring seamless daily operations.
  • Monitoring staffing, scheduling, and resource utilization to support safe, efficient patient care.
  • Supporting advanced respiratory care procedures, including ventilator management, intubations, extubations, and assisting with arterial line insertions.
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives, staff education, competency assessments, and departmental in-service programs.
  • Collaborating with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and departmental performance.
  • Monitoring departmental budgets, productivity, and operational performance while maintaining compliance with RWJBarnabas Health standards.

  • Current New Jersey Respiratory Care License required.
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of advanced respiratory care experience, including adult and neonatal ventilator management and acute respiratory care.
  • Previous leadership experience in shift supervision, staff instruction, or department coordination required.
  • Intubation certification required.
  • Successful completion of all required orientation and onboarding programs.
