Overview

The Director of Retail Visual Merchandising Operations leads the execution engine behind visual merchandising strategy-overseeing retail production, project management, and operational delivery across all store environments. This role ensures that creative vision is translated into scalable, cost-effective, and timely in-store experiences that elevate the brand and drive commercial impact. This leader partners cross-functionally with Visual Merchandising, Creative, Store Design, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Store Operations to bring campaigns, seasonal updates, and permanent fixtures to life-on time and on budget.

Responsibilities

Visual Merchandising Operations & Execution
  • Lead end-to-end operational execution of all visual merchandising initiatives across retail channels (full-price, outlet, pop-up, wholesale as applicable)
  • Translate creative concepts into executable rollouts, ensuring consistency, scalability, and brand integrity
  • Oversee production and deployment of in-store materials, fixtures, signage, windows, and seasonal campaigns
  • Establish and maintain operational standards, toolkits, and guidelines for field teams

Retail Production & Vendor Management
  • Own retail production lifecycle including vendor sourcing, quoting, negotiation, and quality control
  • Drive cost efficiencies while maintaining premium brand presentation
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, fabricators, printers, and logistics partners
  • Partner with sourcing and procurement teams on contracts, budgeting, and production timelines

Project Management Leadership
  • Build and lead a high-performing project management function supporting all VM initiatives
  • Oversee timelines, workback schedules, and cross-functional coordination to ensure flawless execution
  • Implement and optimize project management processes, tools, and reporting
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks, driving solutions across teams

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Act as the key operations partner to Visual Merchandising, Creative, Store Design, and Marketing teams
  • Align seasonal calendars, campaign priorities, and execution strategies
  • Partner with Store Operations and Field leadership to ensure clarity, training, and adoption
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain/Logistics to ensure on-time delivery and distribution of assets

Budget & Financial Management
  • Own and manage visual merchandising operations and production budgets
  • Monitor spend, forecast costs, and identify opportunities for optimization and scale
  • Balance creative ambition with financial discipline and ROI considerations

Process & Operational Excellence
  • Drive continuous improvement in workflows, systems, and execution models
  • Implement scalable processes to support growth and evolving retail concepts
  • Define KPIs and success metrics for operational performance and execution quality
  • Champion operational rigor and accountability across all initiatives

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team across production and project management functions
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation
  • Build organizational capability to support future growth and complexity


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in retail visual merchandising operations, production, or related field
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives
  • Proven expertise in retail production, fixture development, print/signage, and in-store execution
  • Strong project management background with experience leading complex, multi-channel rollouts
  • Deep understanding of retail environments and customer experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and vendor relationships effectively
  • Highly collaborative with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to balance creative vision with operational feasibility and cost efficiency

Benefits

The annual base salary range is $130000 - $145000 / year. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible to receive short term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Salary will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Salary is one component of the Foot Locker, Inc. total compensation package, which includes the below.
