Description
The Director – Project Engineering leads all aspects of engineering execution of ETO (Engineering to Order) projects and NPD (New Product Development) Programs to furnish project work in a manner consistent with customer expectations for ETO projects and program expectations for NPD programs. Director will lead a team of Project/NPD Product Engineers and Engineering Coordinators. Director – Project Engineering is responsible for planning and prioritizing work for the engineering team to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. The individual must collaborate with a multi-functional team from proposal stage beyond start-up. Director – Project Engineering will work closely with the PMO, Product Management, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Sales and engineering disciplines to ensure all processes are in place and projects and programs are executed in the most efficient manner.
Success in this position requires the candidate to work effectively in both a collaborative and independent environment, be safety conscious, possess good communication skills with both internal and external customers, high attention to detail is critical, and is strongly motivated to deliver project/program and department objectives.
As the Director – Project Engineering, you will:
Take part in Strategic discussions and supports in laying out resource requirements and engineering budgets
Be responsible for developing, mentoring, and leading a professional engineering team
Be a standout colleague capable of introducing positive changes, while ensuring accountability within the team
Identify, develop and detail procedures to improve engineering efficiency and quality
Work closely with PMO and Sales to understand and agree to Customer Specifications/Scope during the proposal stage and during project execution.
Work closely with Product Managers to understand and agree to the Program scope/requirements and the schedule for delivering technical aspects of the program
Work closely with other Engineering Disciplines to get resource assignments/commitments, schedule alignment for all ETO projects and NPD Programs
With their team reviews specific designs and make recommendations for improvement and interpret codes and standards (NFPA, AWS, IBC, etc.) for system compliance
With their team, review and approve production drawings, adding recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency
Own the overall Engineering/Technical Responsibility for scope compliance, technical compliance, engineering deliverables and acts as focal point for the shop, customers, sales, and other departments to address and resolve questions and problems on ETO projects and NPD Programs
Own engineering change order process, Part Number Creation process, BOM alignment between Engineering and Manufacturing and all document transmittals with customers and suppliers
Participate in multi-functional teams to address new design issues and resolve problems to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods
Required education, experiences & skills:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering
10+ years of related engineering experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Able to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely in writing and other presentation formats
Working experience using 2D CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)
Able to understand and solve a wide variety of technical problems with little guidance
Able to travel: 10-20%
Preferred education, experiences & skills:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Mechanical proficiency and hands-on experience with compression/rotating equipment, piping systems and mechanical components
Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
Proficiency in interpreting manufacturing BOM structure and ERP
Previous experience in industrial refrigeration systems, heat transfer products or thermodynamic systems
Ability to coordinate and lead a diverse team to implement changes and improvements
