Job Summary Provides overall leadership and technical direction for all facets of the Project Controls groups which can include: Project Support and Scheduling, Project Cost Management, Project Material Management, Project Risk, Quality Analysis, Quality Services, and Capital Project Excellence. These groups are responsible for ensuring the appropriate proactive controls are in place to report progress, opportunities, metrics, and risks associated with all projects. Responsible for the effective planning, organization, implementation and operation of business unit's project controls functions. Tasked with identifying, prioritizing and evaluating the financial, operational, strategic and reputational risk implications to the business. Shall design, develop and implement programs and policies to neutralize or mitigate the risks. Coordinates Business Unit (BU) strategic project activities to ensure all barriers to timely completion of projects are identified and appropriately resolved in accordance with standard and acceptable project controls methodologies.
Job DescriptionWHAT YOU'LL DO - Provide leadership, develop and oversee policies, practices, procedures and programs designed to achieve long-range and short-term company objectives in a cost-effective manner for the areas of responsibility.
- Consider and develop long-range strategic business plans for the project management organization. This will include managing departmental structure, aligning departmental policies, processes, and practices with business goals, and directing departmental engagement with the overall project needs of the organization.
- Provide project controls guidance to ensure contract documents are aligned with project controls objectives and support effective project execution, including contract invoice payments in accordance with contract terms.
- Manage risk assessment and mitigation plans and work activities, policies, programs, and procedures within the assigned department, including managing BU adherence to AEP risk management policies, implementing and executing risk processes and managing risk in alignment with AEP enterprise risk appetite statements and decisions.
- Provide strategic and technical direction to the managers/supervisors within the organization on all responsibilities related to setting, enforcing and improving all Project Controls processes.
- Supervise the preparation of improvement requisitions.
- Establish and implement effective systems and processes to manage site material on major projects, including site warehousing, site procurement, and validation of vendor invoicing, as applicable.
- Responsible for management, maintenance, integration, and administrative aspects of critical business systems.
- Provide regular status updates on the financial health of the projects to executive management for use in corporate decisions.
- Provide consultative services regarding best industry practices in project controls to various BUs within AEP in order to advance project controls knowledge and consistency across AEP.
- Direct, guide, and champion the administration of the AEP project management organizational standards and assist in the management of projects to those standards. Adhere to the guidance and standards put forth by the AEP Project Management Governance Committee.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOREducation: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, Business or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
For nuclear facilities only: Educational requirement for advancement can be fulfilled by qualified experience in the Navy Nuclear Program in addition to the maximum years of experience as noted.
Experience: Minimum of
ten (10) years of qualified experience, preferably with at least four (4) years supervising others, including work in the following areas:
project controls (cost and schedule management), major construction, project management, project construction management, engineering, project scheduling, financial reporting, experience developing and implementing standardized processes and change management, utility experience, and/or plant operations.Experience must exhibit progressive levels of responsibility and accomplishment, highly proficient level of business acumen, and demonstrated effective leadership skills.

Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or other project controls certifications preferred but not required.
- Safely and effectively perform light physical duties at various work sites including home and AEP locations in varying conditions.

- Seek input from Subject Matter Experts by asking the right questions, understanding the nuances, clarifying and validating information, and not relying on one's own knowledge base or assumptions.
For nuclear sites only: Work performed at nuclear power sites may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC.

Compensation Range:$160,434.00 - $208,565.50
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: L - Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 12 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5-6 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
