Director of Planning, Insights, and AI Enablement
The 2034 Organizing Committee is seeking a Director of Planning, Insights and AI Enablement. This management role will help shape how the organization plans, learns, and continuously improves as it prepares to deliver an exceptional 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, in support of Utah 2034's vision to elevate communities, elevate sport, and elevate the Games experience.
This position facilitates the strategy, structure, and execution of integrated Games planning, Games-wide insights, learning, and innovation across the organizing committee. It serves as a key driver of AI-enabled planning capabilities and development of specialized tools, shaping how the organization adopts digital solutions, strengthens decision support, streamlines workflows, and identifies efficiencies in OCOG resource requirements across financial, technology, workforce, venue, and operational needs.
Responsibilities include establishing planning governance and standards, guiding portfolio and functional area planning, identifying risks and dependencies, capturing and applying lessons learned, and translating analysis into practical recommendations to improve readiness, performance, and cross-functional alignment.
Working as part of the Games Delivery division, the position will oversee integrated planning activities, insights generation, observer and other learning programs, AI-enabled tool adoption, and cross-functional coordination. The role will partner closely with senior leaders, functional area leads, external stakeholders, and delivery partners to ensure decisions, milestones, resource assumptions, readiness efforts, and technology-enabled ways of working are informed by strong analysis and translated into actionable delivery plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrated Planning Leadership
- Facilitate the development and evolution of the organizing committee's integrated Games planning framework.
- Guide stakeholder, portfolio and functional area planning to ensure objectives, milestones, risks, dependencies, and decision points are clearly defined and aligned across the organization and with delivery partners.
- Translate strategic priorities into practical planning mechanisms, readiness milestones, and reporting structures that support execution and Games-time delivery.
- Insights, Learning & Knowledge Management
- Lead the Games insights and learning program that captures institutional knowledge, lessons learned, operational findings, and best practices from past and future Games and other major events.
- Oversee the collection, synthesis, codification, and sharing of knowledge to support better decisions, cross-functional learning, and continuous improvement.
- Develop briefings, reports, dashboards, and presentations that convert data and observations into practical guidance for leadership and functional teams.
- AI-Enabled Innovation, Tools Enablement & Resource Efficiency
- Lead the strategy, adoption, and disciplined use of digital, data, and AI-enabled tools to modernize planning processes, improve forecasting, streamline reporting, and strengthen decision-making.
- Identify efficiencies in OCOG resource requirements, including financial, technology, people, venue, and operational needs, and recommend improvements that optimize delivery without compromising readiness.
- Partner across functions to evaluate planning assumptions, resource models, and business processes; identify opportunities for automation, workflow improvement, and better tool integration; and improve productivity, visibility, and accountability.
- Cross-Functional Integration & Stakeholder Coordination
- Facilitate governance forums, planning reviews, and decision-making processes that keep leadership informed and teams aligned on critical priorities.
- Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders and delivery partners to align planning assumptions, milestones, and learning priorities.
- Support major stakeholder engagements, site visits, workshops, and observer activities by coordinating content, logistics, briefing materials, action items, and follow-up.
- Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Build and lead a high-performing team, including setting priorities, mentoring team members, and fostering collaboration across the organizing committee.
- Partner with People Management and other leaders to support training, learning opportunities, and workforce readiness initiatives that strengthen organizational capability.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture and perform other leadership duties as assigned in support of Games Delivery priorities.
Required Qualifications
This is a leadership opportunity ideal for a strategic, analytical, and collaborative person with deep experience in the Olympic Games. Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in business, planning, public administration, project management, event operations, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Olympic Games strategic planning, integrated planning, operations, program management, knowledge management, or a related function
- Experience driving digital transformation, AI-enabled tool adoption, automation, workflow improvement, or enabling tools initiatives in a complex organization.
- Experience designing or leading integrated planning, readiness, knowledge management, or insights functions for complex organizations
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional planning efforts in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for senior leadership and stakeholders
- Strong organizational judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Experience building trust, alignment, and accountability across diverse teams and stakeholder groups
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with evolving priorities
- Experience working with public sector partners, venue operators, sport organizations, or large-scale delivery stakeholders.
- Familiarity with planning systems, dashboards, scenario modeling, and reporting tools that support integrated governance and resource planning.
- Experience with observer programs, delegation operations, stakeholder protocol, or international engagement planning.

- Multilingual skills or experience in multicultural and international settings.
Tools, Equipment & Conditions
- Ability to work onsite in an office environment based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other standard office equipment.
- Prolonged sitting and regular use of hands and wrists for typing and other computer-based work.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or additional hours, as needed to support planning cycles, stakeholder engagements, travel, and operational priorities.
- This position may require local, domestic, and occasional international travel in support of observer programs, stakeholder engagements, and event-related activities.
