Overview

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the Director, Operations Engineering is to provide technical expertise and engineering management in power generation reliability, performance, and high voltage electrical engineering to reduce risk, optimize operating costs and improve revenue for Pattern’s operating fleet.

 

This position is critical to assist Pattern in realizing our mission to Transition the World to Renewable Energy.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key responsibilities will include as a minimum the following:

 

  • Lead a diverse engineering team of reliability, performance, and high voltage electrical specialists
  • Drive continuous improvement of operating site performance, including technical improvements and O&M practices
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert and oversee a team of engineers to support the field operations team as needed, while managing a collection of outside subject matter expert consultants to assist as needed
  • Evaluate, track, and assist in resolution of technical issues in Pattern’s fleet which adversely impact performance
  • Investigate, evaluate, and implement emerging technology improvements for Pattern’s fleet such as blade modifications, software upgrades, advanced controls, monitoring systems, etc.
  • Drive the development and implementation of monitoring and analytical tools to maximize operational performance, including turbine performance analysis, condition monitoring systems, etc.
  • Provide or manage engineering resources to provide technical information needed for regulatory compliance, particularly NERC compliance
  • Lead the interface with lender’s independent engineers when necessary to address technical issues in Pattern’s fleet
  • Oversee and provide technical input for existing fleet and new development projects to include reliability modelling and new technology risk evaluation and mitigation.
  • Lead development and maintenance of Pattern’s long term technology strategic plans
  • Provide guidance for Pattern’s data acquisition and analytics efforts to ensure timely, reliable, and accurate data quality and reporting
Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED

Educational Experience

A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required as a minimum.

Required Work Experience

The following criteria will be used as a basis for Pattern to select a qualified applicant:

  • 10 years of experience in the energy industry
  • Minimum two years of experience in wind energy performance and/or reliability engineering
  • Field operational experience and high voltage electrical expertise is a plus

Must possess strengths in the following:

  • Strong technical capabilities and a creative, curious, self-driven work ethic
  • Ability to work well in and lead cross functional teams with little supervision or oversight
  • Ability to travel frequently
  • Balanced capabilities in technical expertise, business acumen, and interpersonal skills

Technical Skills

Computer skills:

  • MS Office Suite
  • Reading and analyzing SCADA and other performance data.

Engineering:

  • Balanced expertise in wind turbine mechanical equipment, controls, electrical systems, and civil design
  • Balanced skills in theoretical, analytical, and practical field hands-on experience

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $149,000 - $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
