Administers and evaluates all business and administrative matters including budget, operations, and programs and personnel administration within several departments. Provides financial analysis and strategic planning as well as oversees the budgetary controls.
Job Description:Position Salary Range: $132,300- $175,000 per year; DOE
Working directly for the Deputy Director General, this position oversees the finance, budget, human resources, facilities/ space management operations of the Laboratory. The Director of Operations provides leadership consistent with the GFL mission to achieve strategic and operational objectives, effectiveness and efficiency through consistent application of necessary operational controls, procedures, and personnel.
This position plays a key role in building and monitoring the financial and administrative infrastructure for GFL, including the Rob Walton College of Global Futures. This position exercises a high level of responsibility, authority, and discretion to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the university as well as externally.
Essential Duties:The essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Leadership- Responsible for operations goals, objectives, fiscal plans and performance outcomes.
- Proactively identifies risks and helps mitigate their impact, and assists in the resolution of issues.
- Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed. Serves or represents departmental/area interests on committees.
- Serves as part of the core team during the acquisition and/or establishment of new units within GFL.
- Works with operational leadership to identify new pathways for advancement or solve problems that are hindering university success.
Financial Management- Develops, maintains and administers operational, capital budget and general business services.
- Directs department budget planning and management operations and activities.
- Establishes fiscal guidelines to sustain a sound financial status based on knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices and principles.
- Counsels and advises leadership in fiscal administration.
- Responsible for oversight and management of several streams of funding.
Administrative- Coordinates and supervises the work of support staff.
- Interprets and applies pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by university or other governing agencies.
- Unit level oversight for personnel matters, recruitment, interviewing, selection, new hire actions, employee grievances and other applicable issues.
- Communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
Space and Facilities- Collaborates closely with KE and University level facilities management/research space planning/safety and security personnel on building oversight.
- Oversees building space assignments and reception services.
- Assists with negotiating leases and administer contracts and leases as required.

- Comfort with problem solving complex issues and nimble decision-making.
- Familiarity and comfort working with a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to effectively coordinate and supervise work of others, meeting deadlines, collaborating and working in a team environment.
- Experience operating in a R1 higher education environment; ideal candidate has familiarity with both the academic side and the research side of university ecosystems.
- Familiarity with international operations and the complexities associated with managing work abroad.
- Demonstrated experience with ASU core systems including Workday.
Working Environment:- Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
- Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
Driving Requirement:Driving is not required for this position.
