Position Purpose In direct support of Dartmouth Cancer Center's (DCC's) commitments as an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement manages the strategic and tactical development of strategies and infrastructure to support DCC's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. The Director identifies and develops mechanisms for DCC to: engage community members and organizations in shaping our cancer research and control agenda and activities; catalyze community-focused cancer research and control activities; and improve the health of our catchment area through dissemination, implementation, and translation of research and evidence-based recommendations. The Director is the connection between DCC researchers and its catchment area, bearing primary responsibility to develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders that can be leveraged for outreach, and engagement activities.
NOTE: This position is supported by our portfolio of funded projects. Continuation is contingent on funds available in support of that work.
Description DIRECTOR, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT. Dartmouth's Cancer Center is at the forefront of delivering optimal cancer care and scientific discovery to promote cures to cancer. We are deeply committed to working with our community to reduce the burden of cancer experienced throughout our New Hampshire/Vermont catchment area. To that end, we are seeking a Director for the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, who will serve as our main connector between our scientists and our regional community-building relationships to support activities that will improve our ability to collaborate with and improve the health of our community. The Director will be charged with developing and implementing a plan for engaging with community members and organizations to help prioritize what research our cancer center should undertake, while also developing programs that engage community members in our science. The Director will also improve the health of our community through dissemination, implementation, and translation of research and evidence-based recommendations. This is a full-time and benefitted Dartmouth College position.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Master's degree in public health, healthcare administration, or other relevant field.
- Six to nine years of relevant experience in the public health field.
- Demonstrated experience directing or managing a multi-faceted program, preferably in academia.
- Supervisory experience, with ability to manage others and work well in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong reasoning, judgment, decision-making, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with scientists, clinicians, administration, and community members/representatives.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications - Doctoral degree preferred.
- Some prior experience with Cancer Center Support Grants is desired.

Description Strategic Planning and Leadership:Develops an ambitious strategic and operational plan to meet short and long-term goals for DCC's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement-taking into consideration DCC's strategic plan, the National Cancer Institute's requirements of NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, the catchment area's cancer burden, the needs and guidance of community and scientific partners, the evidence-base for different community outreach and engagement strategies, and contribution from DCC Associate Directors and leadership.

Description Program Implementation:Oversees the COE team in developing and implementing strategies and infrastructure to support DCC's community outreach and engagement goals. Includes comprehensive strategies and infrastructure to engage community members and organizations in informing DCC's cancer control agenda and activities (e.g., community partnerships); prioritize the community's cancer-related health needs; catalyze cancer control efforts in alignment with community needs; and reduce the community's cancer burden through dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions, public education, and other community outreach initiatives.

Description Team Management:Oversees and directs the activities of the Community Outreach and Engagement team consisting of a core team of staff implementing COE projects funded through DCC support and/or grants. Provides regular and ad hoc management of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement staff, community volunteers and partners, student interns, and temporary help for specific projects. Creates an environment of respect, accountability, motivation, professional growth, and high productivity. Sets the bar high on commitment to excellence and pursuit of high-performance levels across metrics. Sets clearly defined and measurable goals for the team; establishes appropriate metrics to assess individual and team performance. Ensures a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration, and innovation are expected.

Description Partnership Development:Develops strong and effective relationships and partnerships with DCC faculty, clinicians, and community members and organizations. Serves as the primary outside contact for community members and organizations strategically partnering with DCC to reduce the burden of cancer throughout DCC's catchment area, including state cancer coalitions. Leverages these relationships and partnerships to facilitate bidirectional flow of information to and from DCC researchers and our catchment area community, in support of DCC community outreach and engagement goals. Attends monthly DCC Research Program meetings representing COE interests and identifying areas for collaboration with scientists.

Description Program Evaluation:In partnership with the Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement, the COE Director of Operations and Administration, and scientific and community advisors, identifies metrics to assess and evaluate the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement's strategies and infrastructure. Establishes systems to monitor and track metrics over time. Conducts periodic benchmarking, as warranted and appropriate, with other NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers' Community Outreach and Engagement initiatives.

Description Financial Administration:Coordinates with the COE Director of Operations and Administration to manage the budget for outreach and engagement activities. Proactively seeks philanthropic and other external funding, where feasible, to support outreach and engagement projects and activities. Provides timely reporting to DCC's executive leadership, external funders, and other relevant stakeholders.
