Full Job Description
The Director of Technology serves as the district's technology leader and is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, management, security, and continuous improvement of technology systems, digital learning environments, cybersecurity initiatives, student data privacy programs, instructional technology resources, and information systems. The Director collaborates with district and school leaders to ensure technology supports teaching and learning, operational effectiveness, safety, innovation, and equitable access for all students and staff. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises technology department personnel and contracted technology service providers as assigned. Responsible for the supervision, evaluation, professional growth, and coordination of staff supporting district technology operations, cybersecurity, digital learning, infrastructure, and information systems. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leads the planning, deployment, management, and continuous improvement of the district's technology program, including device lifecycle management, inventory control, replacement planning, and user support. Monitors district applications, digital platforms, infrastructure, and technology services to ensure reliability, security, availability, and continuity of operations. Prepares reports, technology plans, compliance documentation, procedures, training materials, project updates, and other communications to support district operations and technology initiatives. Serves as the primary liaison among district stakeholders, vendors, service providers, community partners, and governmental agencies regarding technology initiatives, support services, compliance requirements, and strategic planning. Provides leadership and consultation regarding technology planning, system requirements, cybersecurity, digital learning, data governance, and emerging technologies to support district goals and initiatives. Collaborates with curriculum and instructional leaders to support the effective integration of technology into teaching, learning, assessment, and student engagement. Oversees the design, administration, security, maintenance, and continuous improvement of district technology infrastructure, enterprise systems, student data systems, cloud services, backup systems, disaster recovery processes, cybersecurity controls, and data privacy safeguards. Evaluates, selects, upgrades, and implements technology systems, software applications, and digital resources to improve instructional, operational, and data management functions across the district. Develops technical requirements and oversees system integrations to ensure efficient, secure, and effective exchange of information across district platforms and applications. Oversees the testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of district software applications, vendor-supported systems, and digital resources to ensure reliability, security, accessibility, and alignment with district objectives. Coordinates technology projects from planning through implementation, including timelines, stakeholder communication, resource allocation, and project evaluation. Develops and coordinates professional learning, user support resources, and training programs related to technology systems, cybersecurity, digital citizenship, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Assists with development, implementation, and monitoring of district technology policies, procedures, and standards, including those related to technology resources, internet safety, cybersecurity, digital citizenship, artificial intelligence, and student data privacy. Leads and participates in district, state, regional, and professional committees, planning initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts related to technology and innovation. In collaboration with district and school leadership, develops, implements, and monitors all aspects of the technology budget, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, instructional technology, software licensing, digital resources, telecommunications, technology-related grants, E-Rate funding opportunities, and replacement cycles.
