Full Job Description
Location: Hybrid role in Atlanta, GA (preferred) with Tues, Weds, and Thurs on-site

New York City, or NYC metro, considered.

Reports to: Sr. Director of IT

Role type: Full-Time, Exempt

The Role

We're looking for a Director of Technology to own the systems that run PopUp Bagels day to day. This is a hands-on role for a builder; someone who can write and read code, uses AI tools to move faster, and is just as comfortable shipping a website update, chasing down a connectivity issue, or building the report an operator needs. You'll own ORBIT, our internal operations platform, along with our digital properties, our data and reporting, and the infrastructure underneath it all. Our platforms team owns the ordering platforms themselves; you own the systems, data, and reporting that sit around them. As we grow, you'll build the standards and infrastructure that let us scale without adding friction.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve ORBIT, our internal operations platform - building new tools and reporting on it, folding standalone systems into it, and expanding what it can do for the business; this requires real comfort writing code and working with AI tooling
  • Own our digital properties, including the website and app - updates, releases, uptime, content accuracy, and vendor coordination
  • Build the data foundation the company runs on, bringing sales, operations, and platform data into a single trusted source and turning it into reporting people actually use
  • Own analytics across our digital channels, including third-party ordering and delivery performance - tracking, attribution, dashboards, and the insight that comes out of them
  • Lead how we adopt AI internally - finding where it creates leverage, rolling it out to teams, and managing the tools and spend behind it
  • Manage our technology infrastructure, including network and connectivity across corporate and store locations, and the vendor relationships behind it
  • Own identity and access - how our teams log in, what they can reach, and keeping that organized and secure as we grow
  • Support finance and operations with the reporting they need by making sure our systems capture the right data in the first place
  • Serve as the technical resource and trainer for the tools our operators and franchise partners rely on, building real enablement rather than just answering tickets
  • Run technical support and escalation across the business, finding the pattern behind recurring issues instead of fixing the same thing twice
  • Partner with the platforms team on integrations, data flow, and reporting requirements across our ordering and delivery platforms
  • Document processes, build standards, and create the training that lets the stack scale as we add units and markets

Required Education, Experience, and KSAs
  • 5-8 years of experience in technology, digital operations, or systems ownership - ideally in multi-unit restaurant, retail, or hospitality
  • Hands-on technical ability: you can write and read code, work with APIs, and query data yourself rather than routing everything to a vendor
  • Working fluency with AI tools and a genuine interest in using them to build and automate
  • Experience with low-code and database platforms such as Airtable, and with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI
  • Strong analytics skills across web and digital channels - tracking implementation, attribution, and dashboard building
  • Experience managing websites and apps, including releases, content, and vendor coordination
  • Familiarity with third-party delivery and catering platforms and the sales and channel-level reporting they produce
  • Practical infrastructure knowledge across multiple sites - networks, connectivity, access management, and vendor escalation
  • Comfort translating technical detail for non-technical operators, and the patience to train rather than just fix
  • Franchise or multi-unit experience a strong plus
  • A troubleshooting instinct - you find root causes instead of applying repeat workarounds
  • Positive, resourceful, and calm under pressure

Physical Requirements

The following physical requirements are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with qualifying disabilities.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching as needed in an office environment
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 15 pounds on an occasional basis (e.g., files, office supplies, equipment)
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read printed and digital documents, spreadsheets, and financial reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via video conference
  • Travel to corporate offices, franchise locations, and for external meetings may be required (estimated up to 30%)
