As a Director of Technology, Enterprise Modernization, you will be responsible for leading Target's enterprise modernization strategy and execution efforts. This team plays a critical role in accelerating Target's long-term technology transformation by creating enterprise-wide clarity, coordinating execution across multiple portfolios, and enabling engineering organizations to modernize legacy platforms and systems at scale.

Unlike traditional engineering leadership roles, success in this position is achieved through influence, collaboration, and execution across distributed teams rather than direct ownership of all engineering delivery. You will lead a team of Technical Program Managers and engineers responsible for defining modernization strategies, driving enterprise-wide alignment, identifying cross-portfolio dependencies, and solving common challenges that enable engineering teams to move faster.

Use your skills, experience, and talents to be a part of groundbreaking thinking and visionary goals.

As a Director of Technology, you'll lead the Enterprise Modernization organization by understanding, advocating, and communicating company objectives, vision, and strategy to senior leaders and stakeholders across Technology. You will turn complex and ambiguous challenges into clear strategies, actionable roadmaps, and measurable outcomes that drive enterprise impact.

You will partner closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Architecture, Product, and Business teams to identify modernization opportunities, establish priorities, and coordinate execution across multiple portfolios. You will develop and foster key stakeholder relationships and provide clear, consistent communication on progress, risks, decisions, dependencies, and areas requiring leadership support.

In this role, you will act as a change agent, helping teams navigate large-scale transformation while creating alignment across organizations that may not report directly to you. You will bring a strong bias for action and sustained follow-through, driving decisions to closure, holding owners accountable, and ensuring complex cross-portfolio work continues to move forward.  You will continuously determine what is best owned within portfolios versus solved centrally, and establish the common solutions, standards and capabilities that can accelerate progress across the enterprise.

You will leverage your technical expertise to understand complex architectures, connect dependencies, challenge assumptions, and ask the right questions to remove obstacles and drive execution.  Strong technical judgment and credibility are essential to shape technical direction and engage effectively with senior engineers, architects, and technology leaders.

Additionally, you will lead and develop a high-performing team of technical program managers and engineers, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and measurable outcomes. You will create an environment that encourages collaboration, problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement while helping team members grow their skills and careers.

The impact of this role is substantial. Mainframe modernization and broader enterprise transformation efforts are ultimately delivered by engineering organizations across Merchandising, Supply Chain, Stores, Finance, and other portfolios. This team serves as a force multiplier by creating clarity, solving the right problems centrally, and helping those organizations execute more efficiently and effectively.

Core responsibilities are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.
