OVERVIEW:The Director of Sustainable Investing will lead Glenmede's Sustainable Investing group, a firmwide capability within Investment Strategy & Research that serves private wealth, endowment & foundation, and institutional clients. This role advances the platform's growth, visibility, and client impact by bringing together sustainable investing expertise, client engagement, thought leadership, and business development support.
Glenmede has built a differentiated and established sustainable investing capability. The next phase of its development will emphasize enhancing business alignment: strengthening the connection between investment offerings, client implementation, thought leadership, and business priorities. The successful candidate will be a commercially oriented platform leader and sustainable investing subject-matter specialist, with the investment fluency needed to partner effectively with Manager Research and business-line investment teams.
This individual will work closely with investment and client-facing professionals across all functions and departments, including manager research, portfolio management, relationship management, business development, marketing and legal. Additionally, this individual will develop and maintain industry relationships and will represent Glenmede internally and externally.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Sustainable Investing Framework and Expertise- Contribute the sustainable investing perspective to Glenmede's investment platform, helping develop and refine the frameworks used to assess mission and values alignment and inform strategy evaluation and appropriate client utilization.
- Partner with the Manager Research Group, and where appropriate business-line investment teams, contributing a sustainable investing perspective on strategies under evaluation for the platform.
- Help establish and maintain clear definitions, decision frameworks, documentation standards, and governance, including the discipline around intended versus unintended deviation and return concession.
- Ensure the platform is implementable and scalable, with appropriate escalation paths between relationship and portfolio management teams and the Sustainable Investing group.
Client Relationship Support- Serve as a senior subject-matter expert in client and prospect meetings, particularly for complex, highly engaged, and mission-focused relationships.
- Support relationship managers and portfolio managers in translating client mission, values, and investment objectives into portfolios.
Business Development and Growth- Source opportunities through industry presence, centers of influence, and allocator-level conference access.
- Hand off opportunities to Business Development for qualification, development, and conversion, and re-engage selectively where differentiated expertise supports closing.
- Define and measure the platform's contribution to the business using balanced metrics that distinguish sourcing, influence, development, and closing.
Thought Leadership and External Representation- Advance Glenmede's external presence and market perspective through thought leadership on sustainable and mission-aligned investing.
- Connect published perspectives explicitly to capabilities Glenmede can deliver.
- Represent the firm at conferences, with industry organizations, and in other external forums.
Institutional Stewardship- Lead and develop the Sustainable Investing team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continued professional growth.
- Steward established institutional infrastructure, including the Sustainable Advisory Council, the internal Guiding Coalition, and the Best Practices program, and extract increasing practical value from each.
- Develop training, tools, and resources that help relationship and portfolio managers communicate sustainable investing capabilities with confidence.
Firm Building- Active engagement in department-specific and firm-wide initiatives to expand capabilities, create solutions to unmet business needs, improve client experience, or develop more efficient processes.
- Contribute to the advancement of team, office, and business capabilities.
- Participate in ad hoc projects requested by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree.
- 10+ years of experience in investment management, wealth management, or a related field, including meaningful experience in sustainable, mission-aligned, or impact investing.
- Demonstrated experience leading a platform, program, or investment capability across multiple stakeholders or business lines.
- Experience in client-facing or advisory settings with sophisticated individual or institutional clients.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- CFA, CAIA, CIMA, or comparable designation or advanced degree in a related field.
- Investment familiarity and fluency, particularly with manager evaluation and multi-manager portfolio construction.
- Practical business judgment, with the ability to balance client objectives, investment considerations, and firm priorities.
- Established credibility and relationships within the sustainable investing industry.
- Strong client-meeting presence and demonstrated ability to build trust.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a clear point of view and the ability to articulate a vision for the platform.
- Emotional intelligence, humility, and a demonstrated ability to partner across investment, relationship management, and business development teams.
- Experience defining and measuring business-line metrics.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
