The Surgical Services Director manages, plans and directs the patient care in the surgical services environment. Ensures nursing services are delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care plan of patients within the surgical services department. Performs a focused assessment of the patient and monitors procedures in the operating room during surgery. Maintains sterility, safety and organization of the surgeon and the patient to ensure the best outcome. Must have a wide range of skills to accommodate a variety of surgery specialties. Must meet the patient's needs through collaboration with the healthcare team. Acts as liaison between physicians and the surgical services patient care team. Develops goals and objectives for the surgical unit nursing department, and oversees compliance with regulatory and government agencies. Consults with staff, physicians and CNO on nursing issues and interpretations of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities and participates in CQI activities and formulates the budget for the Surgical Services Department.
