Role: Director of Subscription Growth, US

Location: Hybrid, New York City

Job type: Full-time

Salary: $170,000 -$190,000/year + 20% bonus opportunity

About The Role

Daily Mail reaches one of the largest news audiences in the United States. Daily Mail+ is our growing subscription product, and this role offers the opportunity to shape its US growth strategy at an early stage.

We are hiring a Director of Subscription Growth to own US subscriber growth and subscription revenue. Reporting to the General Manager, US, and partnering closely with the global subscriptions team in London, you will lead the strategy across paid acquisition, registration, paywall conversion, lifecycle marketing, engagement, and retention.

This is a player-coach role for a commercially minded growth leader. You will set the strategy, lead and develop a small team, and remain close enough to execution to evaluate campaigns, shape experiments, diagnose performance, and turn insights into action.

What you'll do-

Own US subscription growth
• Own the US net subscriber and subscription revenue targets, including forecasting, budgeting, performance reporting, and corrective action.
• Develop and execute a US growth strategy aligned with global subscription objectives.
• Allocate investment across channels and initiatives based on expected subscriber value, contribution margin, and payback period.
• Provide the General Manager and global subscriptions leadership with clear, data-driven assessments of performance, risks, and opportunities.

Build and optimize the full subscriber funnel
• Manage the subscriber journey as one connected system-from anonymous visitor through registration, paid conversion, onboarding, engagement, renewal, and retention.
• Partner with central product, paywall, pricing, CRM, and analytics teams to translate US market needs into prioritized initiatives.
• Manage the paid acquisition strategy and oversee campaign performance, channel mix, creative testing, and budget allocation.
• Create and manage a prioritized testing roadmap across acquisition, registration, paywalls, offers, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
• Establish an effective operating model with the global subscriptions team and central pricing, paywall, product, CRM, and analytics functions.
• Work closely with Audience Development, Editorial, Product, Engineering, Analytics, Finance, and Ad Sales.

Lead and develop the team
• Build strong relationships across New York and London and create clear processes for raising, reviewing, and deciding US proposals.
• Lead, coach, and develop a small team of subscription-growth specialists.
• Set clear goals, accountabilities, and operating cadences.
• Create a culture of commercial ownership, experimentation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

About You
• At least seven years of experience in subscription, membership, or direct-to-consumer growth, including at least three years of people-management experience.
• Direct accountability for subscription revenue, net subscriber additions, acquisition efficiency, churn, or another meaningful commercial target.
• A demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding growth and revenue objectives.
• Strong financial fluency, including CPA, customer acquisition cost, payback period, contribution margin, cohort performance, and lifetime value.
• Experience building forecasts, managing budgets, and making investment recommendations.
• Strong analytical judgment and the ability to turn complex performance data into clear decisions and actions.
• Experience influencing product, engineering, editorial, analytics, and other teams without direct reporting authority.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively across US and international teams.
• Experience in news, publishing, media, digital content, or another high-volume consumer subscription business is preferred.

Initial priorities

During your first 90 days, you will:
• Assume ownership of the US subscriber forecast, growth budget, channel mix, and performance-reporting cadence.
• Complete an end-to-end funnel and cohort diagnosis covering acquisition through the second billing cycle.
• Establish clear baseline metrics for registration, conversion, acquisition efficiency, engagement, voluntary churn, involuntary churn, and early-life retention.
• Present and secure agreement on a prioritized growth plan and experimentation roadmap, including hypotheses, expected impact, resource requirements, and accountable owners.
• Establish decision rights and working cadences with the global pricing, paywall, product, analytics, and CRM teams..

About What We Offer
  • Salary range: $170,000-$190,000/year + 20% annual bonus opportunity
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Dental and optical coverage
  • 401(k)
  • Generous paid time off
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression within a global media organization
