The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a permanent, Full-Time, Director of Staff, NH-0301-04 (GS-14/15 equivalent), to work at Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC), in the Headquarters Directorate of Staff at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland/Kelly, TX. This position has a typical 2026 salary range of $107,446 - $164,301 (without locality).
Qualifications/Requirements:
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Director of Staff (DS, one of the organizations under the Command Staff) for the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC), and exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities to personnel assigned to the organization. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Directorate of Staff (to include Staff Operations, Protocol, HQ Budget and Contract Reviews, Information Protection, Facilities Maintenance, Safety, Commander's Action Group and Commander's Support Staff functions). Serves as the Director of Staff for the AFIMSC Commander exercising management authority in overseeing the actions of other members of the commander's staff, managing the commander's timetable and managing access to the commander. Serves a key role in senior-level decision making and is a senior policy advisor on short-term and long-range issues. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments to include long-term planning, functional/technical advice and guidance, and continuity of management. Identifies the need for special projects and initiates milestones and goals.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance
• May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays on occasion.
• Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
• This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
• This position is emergency essential. In the event of a crisis, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. This meets the criteria of an Emergency-Essential position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status. Employee must sign DD Form 2365 as a condition of employment."
• The duty of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CANNOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve").
• This position meets the executive exemption criteria for the Fair Labor Standards Act (5 CFR 551.205).
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, theories, techniques, practices, mission and organizational structure and the interrelationship of the following functions: facilities, comptroller, history, air and ground safety, commander's action group, emergency management, information security, information technology, public affairs, protocol and workflow.
• Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.
• Proven ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
• Skill in basic analytical ability to discern short, medium and long-term effects of changes in practices, procedures and policies, and to effectively analyze the various components of operations as part of an integrated whole.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series 0301.
