Job Description:

The Director of Special Programs will provide a broad range of support to plan, organize, and manage all activities related to all assigned department(s)/area(s), as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. In addition, the Director of Special Programs is expected to work expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution, while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment, in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Dean of Admissions to recruit, evaluate, and select candidates for EOP eligibility;
  • Set and meet EOP recruitment targets established in consultation with campus administration;
  • Work collaboratively to develop and supervise programming specific to the need of EOP students in support of student success, including summer/interim programs, learning communities, and leadership initiatives;
  • Assist in planning of events and activities for program participants and prepare program information;
  • Monitor students through ongoing outreach and advising, making appropriate referrals and interventions as needed;
  • Develop skill-building workshops for students, including summer programming for incoming students;
  • Active representation of Nassau Community College and the EOP Program with local, state and national education opportunity programs and organizations;
  • Develop, supervise, and direct staff as assigned;
  • Participate in professional development activities;
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and pending legislation, relative to area(s) of responsibility;
  • Assist with all reporting, external and internal, necessary for local, state and/or federal compliance in assigned area(s);
  • Assist with implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures related to assigned area(s);
  • Assist in identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned area(s), as well as working collaboratively with other administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College;
  • Work collaboratively with all relevant constituencies in the College and the Community to support efforts in assigned area(s);
  • Exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administering of the annual budget for the department;
  • Analyze and review budgetary and financial data;
  • Control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established resources and limitations, as directed;
  • Serve on College committees, as assigned;
  • Work effectively with diverse populations; and
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Educational Administration, or a related area;
  • Five (5) years of managerial or supervisory experience in a secondary or post-secondary setting;
  • Familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College;
  • Knowledge of local community and service area;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently;
  • Knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations;
  • High level of emotional intelligence and energy;
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies;
  • Ability to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, encourage conflict resolution, and assure employee and department accountability; and
  • Strong management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Educational Administration, or a related area;
  • Experience working at a Community College;
  • Experience teaching at a Community College;
  • Experience working in a unionized environment;
  • Experience with current management system(s) and programs used in higher education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Additional Information:

The starting salary for this position is $85,000.00.
