As a
Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the
VPC Network organization, you lead a critical technical area and drive firmwide impact across teams, technologies, and projects. You bring deep engineering expertise to
lead the design and implementation of JPMC-VPC-a software-defined networking platform that will replace legacy infrastructure and position the firm for decades of innovation-modernizing JPMorganChase's network platform and advancing next-generation SDN to support resilience, scale, and continued innovation. You partner across product and engineering to deliver trusted, market-leading technology products in a
secure, stable, and scalable way, while challenging the status quo and staying at the forefront of industry trends and best practices.
Job responsibilities- Leads the strategy and development of multiple products, applications, and technologies across a portfolio; sets technical direction and drives measurable outcomes.
- Designs and architects core components of JPMC-VPC, including control plane (OVN), data plane (OVS/DPU), software gateways, load balancers, and IPAM systems.
- Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives across teams and departments.
- Creates novel solutions and drives delivery of new production capabilities across teams and functions; ensures solutions are durable and reusable.
- Provides governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and success measures such as cost of ownership, maintainability, reliability, and portfolio operations.
- Makes decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures.
- Ensures engineering excellence by championing modern practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, and observability, and by driving operational stability.
- Translates highly complex technical issues, trends, and approaches to senior leadership to enable well-informed decisions about technology investments and advancements.
- Collaborates with vendor partners (e.g., Red Hat, NVIDIA) on roadmap and integration; represents JPMorganChase in relevant open-source communities and industry forums when appropriate.
- Builds and develops talent through hiring, coaching, recognition, and creating high-performing, inclusive teams.
- Champions the firm's culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills- 12+ years of experience in systems engineering, networking, distributed systems, or adjacent infrastructure platforms, with increasing scope of ownership and impact.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams of technologists delivering complex platforms/products at scale.
- Experience influencing across functions and managing senior stakeholder relationships; proven ability to deliver outcomes across multiple teams.
- Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for mission-critical infrastructure.
- Strong engineering background with expertise in one or more: Go, Python, C/C++, Rust (ability to guide design/code quality and dive deep when needed).
- Hands-on experience with software-defined networking (SDN) technologies such as OVN, OVS, or equivalent.
- Expert-level knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing, switching, load balancing.
- Experience with modern development practices: CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability.
- Extensive practical cloud-native experience.
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent; building an inclusive engineering culture.
- Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills- Experience with DPU/SmartNIC technologies (e.g., NVIDIA BlueField, AMD Pensando, Intel IPU).
- Knowledge of eBPF, XDP, DPDK, or other high-performance networking frameworks.
- Experience with CNI implementations (Cilium, Calico, Flannel) and Kubernetes networking.
- Understanding of advanced routing/encapsulation: BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, EVPN, or similar.
- Experience working at code level on large-scale infrastructure platforms (design reviews, critical-path coding, and/or hands-on prototyping).
