TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month contract (260 days)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

KWCPS is seeking a highly-qualified candidate to provide comprehensive leadership and vision for the planning, development, implementation, review, and evaluation of the division's secondary-level curriculum and instructional services, as well as assessment, research, program evaluation, and certain federal programs as they pertain to secondary instruction

(e.g., Title I, Title II, etc.).

KWCPS operates two secondary schools:

Hamilton Holmes Middle School: Grades 6-8

King William High School: Grades 9-12

The Director ensures that division and school educational objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence. The selected candidate for this position will promote enhanced literacy and numeracy instruction and student learning by helping teachers develop

more effective instructional practices to allow all students to reach high performance standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated knowledge of the Virginia Literacy Act required.
• Five years' successful experience as a classroom teacher or other comparablecombination of relevant educational leadership experience.
• Administrative and/or supervisory experience as a building level or programadministrator.
• Experience with the development and monitoring of curriculum and instruction.
• experience with effective assessment and development, and demonstrated evidence ofsuccessful and effective literacy and numeracy program/skills implementation.
• Strong knowledge of effective school improvement and professional learning strategies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with a comprehensive Tiered System ofSupports (MTSS), including effective framework for tiered instruction, progressmonitoring, and intervention practices that yield desirable results for both academics and student behavior and wellness.
• Experience with the administration of standardized testing either at the school, division,or state level. Demonstrated ability to analyze relevant assessment data that has resulted in student growth and achievement.
• Experience with instruction or programs for students with disabilities, English LanguageLearners, and students identified as gifted or other exceptional ability.
• Possesses a zeal for learning leadership through personal, organizational, and leadership

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and support all aspects of secondary curriculum and instruction, as well as the
• integration of appropriate technology into the instructional program.
• Develops, leads, and implements targeted and sustained professional learning for
• secondary teachers and leaders that will improve and enhance their understanding of
• core curriculum and instructional strategies to improve student learning and help all
• students reach or exceed proficiency.
• Promotes teachers' understanding and delivery of school curriculum through
• collaborative long- and short-term planning and instructional coaching. Collaborates
• regularly with teachers through team and departmental planning.
• Facilitates teachers' use of effective, successful, research-based instructional strategies
• including differentiated instruction for diverse learners and Science of Reading.
• Identifies specific subgroup performance weaknesses and partners with principals and
• teachers to ensure effective professional development and strategies for improvement.
• Assists secondary school leaders in the supervision of instruction by monitoring the
• implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies through classroom observation,
• analysis of assessment results, and consultation with teachers.
• Supervises the administration and analysis of all federal, state, and local testing
• programs for secondary grades, including the creation of an annual district-wide
• secondary assessment calendar, in conjunction with the Division Director of Testing
• (DDOT) and Assessment & Data Specialist.
• Represents the school division in meetings and conferences related to secondary
• curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology.
• Supports the supervision of principals as directed by the Superintendent and the
• supervision of secondary teachers as requested by the school principal.
• Reports regularly to the school board on all secondary instructional matters as directed
• by the Superintendent.
• Coordinates secondary instruction and programming for gifted learners, English
• Language Learners, and students with disabilities in conjunction with the Director of
• Special Programs and related staff.
• Ensures compliance of all federal and state policies/regulations and prepares reports as
• required by the Virginia Department of Education and as directed by the Superintendent.
• Collaborates with Superintendent, Directors, Coordinators, Specialists, and school leaders
• to integrate technology into the comprehensive instructional program by identifying
• strategies and resources and implementing activities for integration.
• Manages the instructional budget for areas of responsibility.
• Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
