OverviewWe're looking for a Director of Sales who can sell sunshine, sell San Diego, sell 671 rooms, and somehow keep all of us organized while doing it.This is not a "sit in an office and wait for the phone to ring" kind of job. We need a relationship-builder, deal-maker, coach, strategist, and professional opportunity-spotter who knows that a great sales team does not just sell rooms-it sells experiences, meetings, memories, and reasons to come back.
What You'll Do- Lead the Sales team in achieving and exceeding rooms, group, catering, and overall revenue goals.
- Develop and execute a sales strategy that keeps the resort competitive, relevant, and busy.
- Build and maintain relationships with key corporate, association, SMERF, leisure, and group accounts.
- Prospect relentlessly-but professionally. We like enthusiasm; we do not need anyone showing up at a client's house with a room-night contract.
- Identify new business opportunities and turn them into actual business.
- Partner closely with Revenue Management, Marketing, Convention Services, Catering, Reservations, and Operations to maximize revenue and deliver on the promises made during the sales process.
- Lead, coach, develop, and occasionally lovingly harass the Sales team into reaching their potential.
- Analyze pace, production, market trends, account performance, and competitive activity and turn all that data into an actual plan.
- Participate in client appointments, site inspections, tradeshows, sales trips, networking events, and other activities that involve wearing shoes slightly more uncomfortable than necessary.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers while continuously hunting for the next opportunity.
- Ensure sales strategies support the resort's positioning, guest experience, and financial objectives.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on annual budgets, forecasts, business plans, and revenue strategies.
- Represent Town and Country Resort as a passionate ambassador for the property and San Diego.
- Do whatever it takes to make the sales engine hum-within reason, of course. #towncountrySD
ResponsibilitiesWhat We're Looking For- Significant hotel sales experience, preferably in a large convention hotel, resort, or complex hospitality environment.
- Proven success leading a sales team and delivering measurable revenue results.
- Strong knowledge of group, corporate, association, and/or convention sales.
- A strategic thinker who can see the big picture without losing the details hiding underneath it.
- A leader who develops people rather than simply manages them.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the numbers behind the fun.
- Experience with hotel sales systems, CRM platforms, PMS technology, and revenue-management concepts.
- The ability to confidently present a $10 million opportunity without blinking.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and an appreciation for the fact that our clients have approximately 47 other hotels trying to win their business.
Your SuperpowersRelationship Builder: You remember the client's name, their last event, and probably what they ordered for lunch.
Closer: You know the difference between "let me think about it" and "send me the contract."
Coach: Your team gets better because you are their leader.
Strategist: You know when to chase the business, when to walk away, and when to change the game entirely.
Commercially Savvy: You understand that occupancy is nice, but profitable business is nicer.
Calm Under Pressure: Because hotel sales occasionally involves moving mountains before Tuesday.
QualificationsThe Fine PrintThis position requires the ability to:
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Move throughout a large resort and meeting/convention space.
- Attend networking events, trade shows, client meetings, and off-site sales activities.
- Occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and navigate stairs as needed.
- Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Travel as required for sales calls, tradeshows, client visits, and other business activities.
The Bottom Line:If you are a strategic sales leader who loves winning business, developing people, building relationships, and working in a fast-paced resort environment-and you are not afraid of a little friendly competition-we should talk.
Bring your Rolodex. Bring your strategy. Bring your personality. We'll bring the palm trees.
