What you will have an opportunity to do:
Job Description:
As the Director of Sales, you will play a vital leadership role in elevating our boutique hotel's presence in the group, corporate, business transient, and catering segments. Reporting directly to the Director of Sales & Marketing (DOSM), you will help craft and execute strategic initiatives, forge meaningful client relationships, and ensure that our distinct, boutique identity shines through every contract signed. Your efforts will directly drive top-line revenue while nurturing a culture of passion, creativity, and excellence within the sales team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Director of Sales & Marketing to develop and implement strategic sales plans that achieve and exceed property revenue targets across all business segments.
• Proactively prospect, negotiate, and close new group, corporate, and business transient accounts to grow hotel market share.
• Continue to drive business with Visit Newport Beach team.
• Cultivate strong relationships with local businesses, travel planners, DMCs, corporate accounts, and industry partners, positioning the hotel as the preferred choice.
• Represent the hotel at site inspections, client meetings, industry trade shows, networking events, and client entertainment opportunities.
• Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for revenue growth and brand positioning.
• Collaborate closely with the marketing team to create and execute promotional campaigns, brand activations, and sales initiatives.
• Prepare and deliver monthly sales reports, revenue forecasts, booking pace analyses, and budget recommendations to DOSM and senior leadership.
• Lead by example - mentor and inspire the Sales Coordinator and junior sales team members by providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
• Maintain expert-level knowledge of the hotel's offerings, service standards, amenities, and positioning within the San Diego competitive set.
• Consistently use CRM platforms (e.g., CITY, Opera) to ensure accurate tracking of leads, activities, and account development.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of progressive hotel sales experience, preferably within boutique, lifestyle, or independent properties.
• Proven success in corporate, group, and/or catering sales, with a focus on delivering exceptional results.
• Strong knowledge of the Newport, Irvine, Costa Mesa market and key industry relationships highly preferred.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build genuine relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
• High-energy self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, creative, and entrepreneurial environment.
• Experience with CRM and hotel revenue systems (CITY, Opera, and related platforms).
• Passion for hospitality, travel, and curating unforgettable guest experiences.
• Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with a luxury/boutique hospitality environment.

Physical Job Requirements:
Sales team members must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance, including trays, banquet tables, and service equipment. Associate may walk or stand intermittently throughout the day on a daily basis and according to business demand and events. Associate may combine walking and standing for up to the entirety of an event, up to 8 hours. Bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs may be necessary during setup and breakdown of events as well as frequent pushing and pulling of carts and linen bins. Events may take place both indoors and outdoors, exposing staff to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and lighting. requires extensive use of computers and screens throughout the day
