PURPOSE

The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for driving the hotel's annual commercial direction as a key member of the Executive Team. This role leads the Sales, Marketing and Conference Services teams, with accountability for developing marketing strategy, maximizing guest room and food and beverage revenue through direct selling, targeted promotions, and strategic partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years Director of Sales experience in a resort hotel in competitive market an asset
  • Post Secondary Education, preferably a Bachelor in Hospitality management, commerce or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in sales acumen
  • Understanding of multiple business segments including conference, leisure and tour
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Clear understanding of yield management
  • Strong presentation and persuasion skills
  • Ability to establish communication and partnership within all departments in the hotel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Delphi an asse

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Direct and lead the overall commercial strategy for the hotel. This includes but is not limited to: development and implementation of sales prospecting plans, travel, tradeshow and entertainment planning and execution, contract negotiation, rate and space strategy, digital and traditional marketing, analyzing competitive set data, staying current on trends/market feedback and research, adhering to brand standards etc.
  • Partner with the Revenue Management team to determine sales pricing strategies, developing promotional rates, establishing group thresholds, determining space utilization policy, deploying competitive data strategies, conducting demand analysis and managing market mix
  • Direct and oversee social media strategy including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and all guest feedback sites. Lead the Marketing Manager to execute fulfillment of these plans.
  • Oversee development and distribution of all collateral materials, in-room and public space, F&B displays and all audio-visual marketing tools.
  • Direct and oversee digital marketing strategy while working with Hilton's Ecommerce Team where possible
  • Work with Director of Food and Beverage to market all Food & Beverage opportunities, including both catering and outlets, to increase revenue goals as outlined in annual plan.
  • Oversee the solicitation of new and existing accounts to achieve annual revenue goals. Effectively track, analyze and minimize lost business.
  • Plan and implement annual budgets for all sales activities including marketing, promotions, travel, tradeshows
  • Manage and motivate direct reports and lead by example. Set individual performance goals, and evaluate results through, weekly sales meetings, one on ones, regular feedback and open, consistent communication.
  • Provide regular communication to team members about hotel updates and relative operational details
  • Ensures full participation in Brand and Westmont lead sales and marketing programs, with input and approval from GM.
  • Formulate and maintain productive, favorable relationship with corporate personnel and national sales office to maximize brand contribution.
  • Ensure sales contracts, proposals and communications are accurate, current and consistent.
  • Maximize productive relationships with Resort Partners such as Tourism Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb, third party planning agencies and other lead producers.
  • Actively participate in sales process with sales team, e.g. sales calls, BDTs, meals, trade shows
