Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Director of Risk Management.

The Director of Risk Management (DRM) has broad responsibility to protect the hospital's assets from loss. The DRM is responsible for coordinating the loss control efforts; advising administration and management on all potential sources of loss and for making recommendations to minimize or eliminate exposure consistent with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Directs the performance improvement process.
  • In collaboration with Department Directors, maintains policy and procedure compliance, according to current regulations and standards.
  • Coordinates the Risk Management TERM Survey Program.
  • Provides oversight of the hospital contract log to assure accuracy and completeness.
  • Directs the peer review process for all Medical Staff.
  • Provides oversight of the patient satisfaction process.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Director of Clinical Services, manages all Hospital patient safety initiatives.
  • Deploy and complete root cause analysis when the need is identified and manage the probable claims report.
  • Administers risk management overview training at new employee orientation, which includes at minimum, demonstrated competency in observation rounding.
  • Serves as CCH's Compliance Officer.
  • Coordinates and actively participates in preparation for all external auditing and regulatory requests and audits.
  • Attends and participates in all assigned meetings.
  • Reports all safety concerns upon discovery to a supervisor, Loss Control Coordinator, Maintenance and/or Environment of Care (EOC) Committee member.
  • Abides by the Hospital's Safety policies. If injured, complete Employee Accident Report and submit it to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift worked, and no later than 24 hours after the injury occurred and abides by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines. If it is a work-related injury and it results in a back injury, completes Back Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator.
  • Meets all annual competency requirements as assigned per department standards.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related health field required. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience : Five (5+) years of experience in risk management/improving organizational performance within an acute medical or psychiatric treatment setting.

Additional Requirements: A strong knowledge of JOINT COMMISSION, TDSHS, CMS standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
