Job Description

The Director of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the organization's Quality, Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, and Regulatory programs. This role develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive, system-wide quality management and patient safety program that supports safe, high-quality, patient-centered care and ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. Serving as a highly visible leader and change agent, the Director of Quality and Patient Safety collaborates with physicians, nursing, clinical and operational leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, reduce preventable harm, strengthen a culture of safety and high reliability, and drive organizational performance through data-driven quality improvement initiatives. The Director of Quality and Patient Safety oversees regulatory readiness, quality reporting, patient safety event management, peer review, and performance improvement activities while supporting the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or healthcare-related field.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of direct patient care experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership or management experience.
  • Strong project management, analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and/or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS).
  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, regulatory surveys, accreditation activities, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with DNV accreditation, CMS reporting, Leapfrog Hospital Survey, NJ Department of Health (DOH), and MIDAS event reporting
  • Knowledge of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles, Just Culture, Lean, Six Sigma, or other performance improvement methodologies.

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc." The salary range does not include incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation.

St. Joseph's University Medical Center is an academic tertiary care medical center and state designated trauma center, located on the Paterson campus, regularly accepts referrals of difficult or unusual cases from other hospitals and physicians and performs both complex and routine procedures.

The Medical Center offers a full complement of specialty and subspecialty services including ambulatory, behavioral health, cardiovascular, emergency/trauma, internal medicine, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedic/spine, rehabilitation, surgical specialty, women's health, imaging and pediatrics.
