Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Town Manager, the Director of Public Works provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Public Works Department, ensuring alignment with Town Council priorities and organizational goals. The Director leads managers and oversees departmental operations, budgeting, capital improvement programs, development coordination, regional partnerships, and public engagement. Department responsibilities include the planning, funding, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation systems, stormwater infrastructure, parks, facilities, fleet services, and environmental compliance programs.
The Director ensures that all department personnel have the skills and tools necessary to accomplish department priorities and goals.

Department
- Directs and oversees Public Works operations, including facilities, streets, parks, maintenance activities, equipment, and departmental resources.
- Develops, implements, and administers departmental policies, procedures, budgets, and operational plans.
- Leads, supervises, and develops staff to achieve departmental goals, maintain effective teamwork, and ensure efficient service delivery.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Town leadership to support organizational objectives and make effective operational decisions.
Administrative
- Direct and oversee all Public Works operations, programs, personnel, and resources to achieve organizational goals and deliver effective public services.
- Serve as a member of the Town's leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, decision-making, and strategic initiatives.
- Develop, administer, and manage the department budget, including capital improvement planning, and ensure alignment with Town priorities and objectives.
- Represent the department before Town Council, community groups, and other stakeholders, and participate in land use matters and special projects as assigned.
- Establish, implement, and enforce departmental policies, standards, and procedures to ensure efficient, responsive, and customer-focused service delivery.
- Provide leadership and supervision to department staff through workforce planning, hiring, training, performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, and professional development.
Leadership

- Attends workshops, seminars, and training
- Attends Town Council meetings and other meetings as required

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's in Public Administration, Engineering, Public Works, or related field
- Six (6) years' experience in a Public Works Department environment
- Three (3) or more years in a supervisory position
- Eight (8) or more years' increasingly responsible leadership experience
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Driver's License CDL endorsement preferred.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
Work is performed in both office and field settings, requiring the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and travel between Town facilities in varying terrain and weather conditions. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, use vision and hearing sufficient to perform essential job functions, and operate a motor vehicle. May be exposed to weather, machinery, tools, chemicals, fumes, and other workplace hazards. Work involves managing multiple priorities, frequent interruptions, interaction with Town officials and the public, and occasional evening or weekend meetings. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
