Director of Public Works

Town of Berryville, Virginia

The Town of Berryville, Virginia (pop. 4,819) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Public Works. Position's salary range is $80,000 to $105,000. Starting annual salary, which will be based on applicant's qualifications, is expected to be between $80,000 and $95,000.

This Department Head position plans and directs activities of the Public Works Department and performs related work as required. Position supervises departmental staff (currently 10 employees) and ensures that the department fulfills its responsibilities, which include:

• maintaining and repairing the water distribution and sewer collection systems,
• maintaining and repairing streets (including snow removal), and
• maintaining and repairing town-owned buildings and grounds.

The position assists town manager and deputy town manager with tasks/projects as needed.

The position requires a person who is highly organized and able to prioritize among competing demands. Position's duties also require attention to detail, ability to work independently on projects, and meet deadlines.

Applicants must have graduated from high school and have extensive supervisory experience, as well as considerable experience in the following:

• water line, sewer line, and general construction and maintenance,
• snow removal, and
• project management.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with course work in engineering or related field is preferred.
