DIRECTOR OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Department: Operations / Project Management
Location: Kalamazoo, MI

Join Miller Davis as a strategic leader responsible for developing and leading our Project Management team. This role drives project delivery excellence, talent development, client satisfaction, operational consistency, and innovation while partnering with company leadership to support growth and long-term success.

Position Summary

Provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for the Project Management Department. Responsible for developing a high-performing project management team, ensuring consistent project execution, supporting client relationships, driving innovation, and achieving quality, safety, schedule, and financial objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, supervise, and develop Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers.
  • Oversee department goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans aligned with company objectives.
  • Serve as a senior client relationship manager and executive point of contact for key clients and partners.
  • Support business development efforts through client meetings, presentations, interviews, and relationship-building activities.
  • Monitor project health, resource allocation, staffing needs, and workload balancing across the department.
  • Recommend departmental staffing, organizational structure, budgeting, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Maintain and improve project management standards, procedures, training programs, and best practices.
  • Drive implementation and adoption of construction technology, innovation initiatives, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Preconstruction, Field Operations, Accounting, Safety, and Human Resources to improve organizational effectiveness and project performance.
  • Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, retention, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Promote and reinforce company safety standards, quality expectations, and culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive construction project management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing and developing project management professionals.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, complex construction projects and portfolios.
  • Exceptional client relationship and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, financial management, scheduling, contracts, risk management, and project controls.
  • Experience implementing organizational change and process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote technology adoption and operational innovation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and construction management software platforms.
  • LEED Accreditation, OSHA Certification, or similar credentials preferred.
