This position can be based in Lynchburg, VA, Charlotte, NC, or San Carlos, CA, with hybrid work options available. Highly qualified candidates outside these locations may be considered for remote employment; however, they must be able to travel as needed for the role and work onsite at one of our office locations for one week each month. What You'll DoAs the Director of Procurement, you will provide centralized leadership for sourcing strategy, supplier performance, procurement execution, and risk management across direct materials, indirect spend, and capital expenditures. You'll partner with leaders across Operations, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Sales, and Supply Chain to ensure Delta Star has the suppliers, contracts, and processes necessary to support operational excellence and customer commitments.
A Day in the LifeYour day may involve negotiating strategic supplier agreements, reviewing commodity market trends, evaluating supplier performance metrics, and partnering with Operations to address supply constraints. You'll lead procurement teams, develop sourcing strategies, support business growth initiatives, and work with executive leadership to align procurement priorities with organizational objectives. Whether driving cost savings, reducing risk, or improving supplier performance, your leadership will directly impact company success.
Specific Duties- Develop and execute procurement strategies for direct materials, indirect spend, and capital equipment.
- Establish category management strategies that optimize cost, improve supplier diversification, and reduce supply chain risk.
- Lead major supplier negotiations, including pricing, commercial terms, delivery commitments, quality requirements, and long-term agreements.
- Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships that support business and operational objectives.
- Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions to improve quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness.
- Provide escalation support for supplier-related issues, including material shortages, delivery disruptions, pricing disputes, and quality concerns.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to support production requirements and growth initiatives.
- Support capital projects and business expansion efforts through strategic sourcing and supplier readiness planning.
- Develop and monitor procurement performance metrics, including cost savings, supplier performance, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procurement processes, systems, and supplier management programs.
- Lead, coach, develop, and hold procurement team members accountable for performance and results.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate brings strong sourcing expertise, excellent business acumen, and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization while developing high-performing teams.
Position Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- MBA, CPSM, CPM, CSCP, or similar professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive procurement, sourcing, supply chain, supplier management, or manufacturing operations experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing procurement, sourcing, or supply chain teams.
- Demonstrated success negotiating supplier contracts, pricing agreements, and long-term supply agreements.
- Manufacturing industry experience required.
- Experience in transformer manufacturing, electrical infrastructure, utility, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments preferred.
Skills & Competencies- Strong knowledge of procurement, strategic sourcing, negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
- Ability to develop and execute long-term strategies while remaining engaged in critical operational needs.
- Thorough understanding of commodity markets, supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, and supply chain risk management.
- Strong financial and analytical acumen, including total cost of ownership analysis and cost reduction initiatives.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Quality, and executive leadership.
- Proven leadership skills with experience developing teams and driving accountability.
- Strong negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and procurement technologies; Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred.
- Ability to influence organizational outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
